Edward "Eddy" Beadles- English/Scotch-Irish ancestry (very distant Cherokee Native American); Often loud-mouthed, insensitive, and tactless, Eddy Beadles is an obnoxious boy who frequently bullies Rafael Nichols, having been his frequent tormentor since the 5th grade. He is nicknamed "The Skid" and was born and partially raised in the state of West Virginia with both racist and homophobic tendencies, mostly due to the influence of his upbringing. He is usually seen in the company of Nigel Frost and Carter Reid, his two lackeys and picks on many of the other students, namely Rafe due to his Afro-Latino ancestry and homosexuality. He is tall and appears older than his actual age, with short, ruffled dark brown hair, fair skin, a long, narrow face, and close-set brown eyes that always appear to be gleaming with irony towards other people. Eddy appears to lack empathy for others and have antisocial tendencies due to having been beaten, mocked and ridiculed by his grandfather for years, making him want to belittle and project those same attitudes towards the people at his school. He also has an inferiority complex that he tries to conceal with a mask of superiority by undertaking the role of a class clown and smart aleck when in public. Often cocky and rude, he can also be foul-mouthed and seem perverted with his liking for adult-related materials. He sometimes clashes with some of his female peers due to his raunchy sense of humor and his actions towards females can appear questionable at times. Eddy also spends excessive time playing video games and making postings on online forums and social media sites that reflect the hatred he feels due to the mistreatment he receives from his extended family. He can often be verbally aggressive and impulsive, saying spiteful, malicious things in a fit of anger, and has been shown to have poor self-esteem due to his relatives' actions toward him.
It is also suggested that he is secretly a closeted gay who is in love with his friend Carter, despite his constant denial of his attraction to the same sex due to his own distorted value system. He feels particularly confused about his romantic feelings upon recalling his family's claims that they would disown him should he bring home someone who was either black or a male. Although he tries to redeem himself, these constant inner battles cause Eddy to fall into a deep depression, which later drives him to attempt suicide sometime during high school through a self-inflicted gun wound, much to the surprise of his classmates. During Friendship Day however, Hannah, Mia, Eitan and Anthony head to an annual potluck to celebrate with everyone, and he arrives in his usual curmudgeonly way, despite claiming to hate the holiday, and even scoffs at the latter two's "Kranch", which is ketchup and ranch combined. He cannot even bring himself to say anything nice to Gretel Grant-Palermo and her cousin Bailey, who are disgusted with his behavior, and he admits that he has a problem. Despite thinking Anthony is dumb, he agrees to get help from him, whereas Hannah's father tells that her grandmother that he is going to start his day off by saying hi to everyone in the city. Anthony and Eitan try training Eddy to be agreeable, believing that his issues come from hating everything, yet every time he snaps, they toss Kranch into his mouth until he says something nice or encouraging. He eventually tries talking to Hannah and manages to withhold saying anything negative or offensive to her for a moment. The more he plays with her, the more unhappy he looks, and she notices this and asks Mia what would happen if he continued to agree to everything.
Mia explains that Eddy would most likely build up like a volcano and eventually explode from hiding his true feelings, scaring her two male friends. Eddy ultimately explodes as predicted and sulks, and the boys admit that they were wrong for trying to change him and say that he would probably be better hanging out with old people. This actually ends up being the solution all along as he is finally able to be himself around the elders who share his similar views of everything. Mia is confounded by this contradiction, but doesn't have time to think as her peers arrive with expired ketchup and the prospect of having a ketchup war. He admits that while he still thinks everyone else is "stupid", he does think that they actually offered a good idea for once and is finally happy. Eddy always points out the littlest of flaws in things, like the inconsistencies in the Barnacle Banquet live show and the spelling of "421 Grand Aªvenue". His habit of shouting a lot suggests he is neurodivergent, and he is presumably left handed, as he wore his baseball catcher's mitt on his right hand during a little league game. He is often shown to be a poor student, but excels in leadership and team organization which usually involves exploitation of others' weaknesses. He has evolved into a person of stunningly articulate manipulative talents and techniques and employs this skill to get what he wants. Eddy cannot resist indulging in pea soup, to the extent of surfing the web to discover a new recipe for it, and he also likes peanut butter and cheese pretzel bites, cocoa crunchies, and eating baked pork tenderloins. He has a childlike side to his demeanor, as he secretly enjoys the Despicable Me series from Illumination studios, and he once tried to join a group of kids during a game of Mermaid Tag. He grew up listening to dubstep but is a fan of Logic and Post Malone, meanwhile he considers his favorite subject in school to be US History.
He grew up as an only child due to having an older half-sibling, whom most people simply refer to as "Eddy's brother", whom moved out of the house when he was only 5. Eddy also has hidden depths, as his teachers begin to encourage him to channel his anger in a more productive way by joining the debate team, or perhaps playing a sport. He participates in the cross country team from the start of his junior year and eventually outpaces Timmy, and he considers one of his favorite activities to be skipping stones. He starts his own business by selling burgers at a stand and introduces a new invention known as the Egg-o-Matic for the annual science fair. He also watches the animated show Family Guy religiously whenever it airs on television, alongside the Regular Show and a game show called American Ninja Warrior. At the community center, the children, including Eddy himself are rehearsing their lines for a choir concert, and the instructor directs the kids to a successful rehearsal. As his friend Will attempts to fold up the chairs, he lets the word "shit" slip, and he starts using it, despite the girls' objections. He decides to spread awareness of the word to the others, the first student being Carter and the second being Mia, who takes offense, and soon afterward all the students are turned into a group of potty-mouths. The anti-swearing program is done initially through a program initiated by the principal, which doesn't work, as he's "not the dad of the other kids". Eddy's mother gives him full permission to swear and leaves her son with his lesson: "You just gotta decide if that's the kinda person you wanna be." He apparently takes this to heart, but decides he won't stop swearing and to drop the "S-bomb" instead, yet during the big finish, he gets back up and loses his balance, singing "Valley Stream is the..."
It would appear that now would be the best time to drop the S-bomb, but Eddy, upon seeing his mother in the audience and taking his advice to heart, he realizes he can't do it and decides to restrain himself, rounding off the play with its intended finish: "...the best." He acknowledges that while he thought about cussing, he doesn't want to cuss all the time because being the potty-mouthed jerk that ruined everyone's day is not the person he wanted to be. Eddy never quite loses his characteristic hot temper, but comes to terms with the root cause of his behavior, which he attributes to the emotional neglect that he experiences at home. Despite his flaws, he admits that he has a soft spot for his mother, whom he appreciates for her sacrifices after the untimely passing of his father. He determines that he would like to avoid following in his brother's footsteps in engaging in criminal activity, especially after with his record of falsifying checks and being a compulsive liar. He later finds solace in an elderly man at the senior center whom shares his vocal opinions and engages in sessions of bingo with him. Eddy continues to maintain his "tough guy" facade at school, as he knows that he has a reputation to uphold, but will reveal his vulnerable side on rare occasions. He essentially disappears and is never heard of again upon graduating, reappearing over a decade later through a series of cryptic Instagram posts. He is shown to be genuinely happy by then as he explores his sexuality and is seen in a public photo standing next to a man and a little boy, with an apple tree in the background. He works as an administrative assistant for a real estate company called Alpha Homes as an adult and has relocated to Manassas in Northern Virginia. ESTP 8w7
