Only We Know

Chapter Nineteen - Halloweenie

"Kaelea Zaphiris!" I hear Delaney call as I walk in to the cafeteria on Friday

"What did I do?" I ask, and sit down next to Harry, who wraps his arm around my waist and kisses the side of my head.

"Nothing, I just like to make you blush" She smiles and I roll my eyes "Seeing as today is halloween and not one of you bothered to dress up, we're going to do something tonight"

"What do you have in mind?" Xavier asks

"The new haunted house? The one they just put up right outside of the city"

"OOOO" Emma squeals excitedly "Can we please go?"

She looks over at Xavier and he smiles at her, nodding. I try to hold back my laugh, knowing he hates scary things just as much as me. I look up at Harry, who is already looking at me.

"Do you want to go?" He asks

"Only if you go" I say 

"I'd never leave you to fend for yourself in a haunted house" He jokes and turns to Delaney "We're in too. What time do you want to meet there at?"

"Eight-ish. It opens at seven-thirty, but I don't want to be the first ones there" She says and looks over at the clock "We should probably head to English"

I look at the clock and see that we only have five minutes before the bell. We all look at each other and then scramble out of our seats and rush off to our lockers. I give Harry a quick kiss and tell him I will meet him in English. I run to my locker, gather my things and make it to class with a minute to spare. I walk to my seat and Delaney comes in after me, taking hers as well. When the bell rings, I look up to see we have a substitute teacher. I quickly take out my phone and text my mother.

Can I go out tonight?

Where? With who?

To a haunted house and with Delaney, Emma, Xavier and Harry.

Are you coming home after?

I look over at Delaney and wave under my desk to get her attention. When she looks over, I lean closer and whisper.

"Can I stay over tonight?"

"If you want" She smiles "We can make it a whole night of doing scary things!"

I nod my head, but feel my stomach turn, maybe Ill just pretend to fall asleep after the haunted house. I turn back to my phone and text my mom again.

Can I stay at Delaney's?

Yes, but be back tomorrow morning please.

Okay. Thanks.

I smile and slide my phone back in to my pocket. I turn my attention back to the substitute, who is explaining to us that the teacher wants us to get in groups and read. I smile and look over at Delaney and Emma, happy that we now have a chance to discuss tonights plans further. The substitute finishes talking and allows us to move our desk and make small circles. I rush over to Delaney and Emma. Xavier comes over, but Emma stops him. 

"Three to a group, Xavier. Not four" She smiles and he scowls, retreating back to Harry.

"There are three very important matters to discuss" Delaney starts "First, Emma you are coming to my house tonight because we are having a sleepover"

"Here, here" Emma and I say in unison and then laugh

"Secondly, if either one of you tries to pretend like you are sleeping tonight after the haunted house, I will kill you. We are staying up and watching a movie and talking until halloween is over"
