Lucas

I awoke to beeping monitors, whitewashed walls and Riley watching over me. Her eyes were wide. She was pale. She looked so scared. Why did she care about me?

As soon as she saw my eyes open, she flung her arms around me, minding the machines that were hooked up to me.

"Oh Lucas." She sobbed into my chest. "I was so afraid after you passed out. I was afraid that you had..." She started coughing. "Oh god, I was so scared."

"Calm down Riley." I said, putting my arms around her. "I'm not going anywhere."

The sobs got louder and heavier. Why did Riley care so much about me?

"Riley, it's okay." I whispered into her hair. I'm not going anywhere. I'll stay here...although I don't know why." I whispered the last part.

Riley tensed; I guess that she had heard me. She stared at me; her eyes piercing into me. A look of incredible sadness and guilt crossed her face.

"Please...please don't say that. Please." She stood up. Tears dripped down her face.

"Riley..." She cut me off.

"Lucas, you're an amazing human being. You have so much to live for." She wrapped her small hands around one of mine. "I will personally make sure that you live life to the fullest. Okay? I will get you through this. So please...please stay alive."
