It's a Nightmare

Chapter Twenty Seven

I woke up the next morning with a brief memory of someone whispering in my ear. Whether that was a dream or something that actually happened last night, I wasn't sure.

I just wanted to see my boyfriend. He had had a really hard night last night, and I wanted to make sure he was okay.

Oddly enough, his bed was empty and cold. Clearly, Lucas had not been here for a while.
However, Isaac was in his crib.

Lucas probably went for breakfast. Nothing to worry about. Isaac was probably still sleeping.

I pulled on my favourite fuzzy robe.

"Hey mom," I smiled, walking into the kitchen. Mom stood at the oven, making pancakes. "Have you seen Lucas?"

Mom shoved a plate with pancakes and syrup in front of me. I took a seat at the table.

"No I haven't dear. I thought he was still sleeping."

That was weird. Lucas would never creep out without letting me know. Where was he?

"Mom! I don't think Lucas is here!" I said nervously. "We need to call the cops!"

Mom nodded in agreement, walking around the table. She picked up the phone and dialled 9-1-1.

"Hello?" Nervous Tears dropped down my cheeks. I was so worried. What if Lucas was in danger?

"This is Topanga Matthews. I'd like to report a missing minor. Lucas Frier. He went missing sometime last night. We don't know. Okay. Thank you."

Mom hung up the phone and turned to me.

"The police are going to send out a search party. They'll check his old house first." She placed a hand on my shoulder and kissed my forehead.

"He'll be okay Riley. Lucas wouldn't run off without telling someone. He'll be okay."

I started bawling. Flinging my arms around my mom, I sobbed into her shirt.

"I just want him back mom." I sobbed out. "He needs to be okay. I won't forgive myself if something happened to him."

"I know my love." My mom hugged me tighter. "But you have to remember that Lucas is a very resourceful young man. And he's very clever. He's going to be okay. You just have to believe."
