It's a Nightmare

Chapter Eleven

Riley

"Riley? What's wrong?" My mom asked as I dashed into the hospital lobby. Tears poured down my cheeks; they clouded my vision, causing everything to blur heavily.

I barrelled right into her, tucking my head into her chest.

"I...miss...B-B-Brodie."

"Oh Sweetie." My mom kissed my head. "What happened?"

I burst into fresh tears, burying my face into my mom as I pictured my older brother, Brodie Andrew Matthews.

My brother was seventeen years old. He was absolutely gorgeous: brown hair that fell in waves to his shoulders, warm chocolate brown eyes. He was muscled and tanned from being on the school football team for years.

Brodie had been happy at school. Good grades, many close friends, a beautiful girlfriend.

But all that had changed because of Alexandra Julie Crawford. The girl that was my brothers best friend. He had had a crush on her since they first met.

When high school started, Alexandra changed. She began wearing clothes that amplified her figure. She began flirting with every guy in the school. She forgot about my brother. It broke Brodie's heart. I could hear him crying about it every night.

For him, things just kept getting worse. He started working out harder and longer everyday. He stopped eating, thinking that it would make his muscles seem bigger. None of it worked.

Brodie drifted farther and farther away from the family. He went out more, drank, did drugs, stayed out until all hours. He partied with her, hoping to get her to notice him. He was in love with her.

Our parents knew about this; they tried to stop him, but Brodie didn't listen.

Then, one night, we got a call. Auggie went to answer it; I pushed him away. I don't know why I did. I had a bad feeling about this call.

My mom picked up the phone and then gave us the news.

Brodie was dead. He had died from an overdose. The police had discovered his body after his best friend Vick left a tip.

Alexandra didn't even show up to his funeral.
