Ava's P.O.V
"Hey." I greeted shyly while her brown eyes looked up at me intently. This may sound really dumb but her constant staring wasn't helping my nerves. A five year old was making me uncomfortable. She didn't say anything her only movement being her wide eyes blinking.
"Um you wanna watch tv?" I asked hoping she'll finally answer this question. She refused to move from where Candy left her at the door when she and Bentley went to talk about... well whatever her name was. Yet again she just stared at me, not responding. She just stood there. Mind my manners when I say this but something about this kid wasn't right.
Although she didn't speak she didn't need to make a sound for me to notice how beautiful she was. She looked nothing like Candy which I'm guessing is a good thing in this case. From her deep brown puppy like eyes, her curly light brown hair fell messily onto her shoulders. It's a wonder how Candy could actually try to convince Bentley that she's his when she looked nothing like either of them.
"Okay. How about something to eat?" I asked quickly running out of things to ask her. Finally she slowly nodded! "Yeah." I said stretching my hand out to her which caused her to flinch. "It's okay I'm not going to hurt you. I promise." I said kneeling down so I was at her level. Without saying anything she reached out for my hand.
Taking her smaller hands in mine I lead her to the kitchen lifting her so she could comfortably sit on a bar stool. I made a sandwich and handed it to her with some juice which she ate rather quickly. She turned to look up at me almost pleadingly. "More?" I asked grabbing the bread to make another sandwich when I heard something crash down in Bentley's office.
She jolted in her seat almost falling out of the chair at the sudden loud sound. "It's okay." I cooed steading her on the chair before placing her food in front of her before leaving the kitchen. Walking down the hall Bentley's voice was muffled through the heavy wooden door but he was obviously shouting. "I don't want the brat!" Candy screamed.
"Candy." Bentley said stopping his words when I slowly opened the office door. I was hoping deep down that Candy wasn't about to do what I thought she was going to do. "Baby?" Bentley asked snapping me out of my mental confusion. "I have to go get the girls from school. I'll take...," I drawled out seeing that she refused to tell me her name.
"Amy. And okay." He said obviously stressed his hair was now ten times messier than it was before. His face was visibly hot with anger while his hands were balled up into tight fists. Meanwhile Candy sat on a chair in the corner of the room looking at her painted nails as though they were the most interesting thing she'd seen in a while. I guess some people never really change.
Saying a quick okay to Bentley I left the room quickly running upstairs to grab my purse. Running back downstairs Amy still sat where I left her eating, "Amy." I said softly catching her attention. "I have to go get my daughters from school you want to meet them?" I asked now standing in front of her. She shook her head in a 'No' manner.
Okay so obviously she wasn't a people person so why mention the girls. Lord I felt like I had to be the 'Toddler whisper' with this child. "We could get ice cream." I said her brown eyes sparking with excitement. I don't know but I think ice cream could be used to quell wars. Or maybe just some of the battles I face I don't know.
We walked out the house hand in hand walking over to my parked car where I buckled her in before climbing in myself.
💕
"Mommy!" They screamed running over to me from where they sat with their teacher. "I'm really sorry for being late." I apologized to her grabbing their hands. Walking back to the running car where Amy sat looking at the cartoon I put on. "Now there's a little girl your going to meet in the car. Don't ask any questions just say hello she's a bit shy."I said my own words not making sense to my ears.
