DEVON'S POV * * * * *

* * * *
I had arrived at the hospital an hour after the surgery started and it had been ten hours but still no one came out of the surgery room. How can Mom gamble with Jazzy's life like that. She could die with that surgery.

"Mom, what if she dies, you should have talked to me or dad first", I asked my mom angrily when she told me about the risk she took with.

"What if she survives Devon, I only did what I had to to save my girl. And you and your dad weren't here so don't you dare patronise me for thinking for you two", she replied angrily.

"Calm down Lucinda, we were both in an airplane right after we heard the news", my dad consoled calmly.

"I had been calling and texting Devon for hours when the accident happened but oh no, my matured son wouldn't grow up to pick my calls", she was angry but that didn't give her the right to insult me.

"Mom I was on tour, I hadn't touched my phone for hours, how was I supposed to know about Jazzy", I shot back angrily.

"You two this is not the place or time to have one of your fights. We have to stay put and wait for the surgery to end so stop arguing", my dad warned calmly but stern.

"I didn't know what else to do Devon,...I couldn't just sit and wait for my lil girl to die", my mom sobbed like never before which really got to me. She never broke down for anyone but this time, her family mattered more. I hugged her for almost five minutes and sat down next to her still hugging her till she fell asleep on my shoulder.

Hours passed and still no word. Outside the hospital was filled with paparazzi which included reporters and well wishers. They weren't allowed inside. When we wanted to run in turns to take a quick shower and get some rest, we used the parking lot staircase to hide from the paparazzi. No one had come out of the OR to tell us what was happening or whether everything was going well or not.

I started pacing back and forth in-front of the operating room hoping for some kind of update about my sister. I noticed a lady in a white gown walk across from the tv room and go into the operating room and then came back out in a few minutes standing beside a vending machine opposite me. I paced back to her and smiled sheepishly while I flipped a coin in the machine and grabbed a bottle of water from the pick up box. She smiled back at me and went back to her water.

"I'm Devon", I said while offering up my right band for a handshake. She giggled and blushed while brushing off a hair strand off her face.

"Hi Devon, I'm Samantha. I know who you are by the way. You are really handsome in person. I have a huge crush on you......", she went on and on and on and on and I almost felt dizzy. I wanted to walk away, but I really wanted to know if she knew anything from going in there.

"Sorry for interrupting you, do you mind telling me how the little girl in there is doing?", I sharply interjected causing her to stop abruptly in disappointment.

"Oh sorry for ranting so much. Just that I'm a huge fan. Well she is still not awake yet but they are doing everything they can to revive her. I know the doctor they put in charge of her life is just one lousy trainee but there are other sensible seniors in there who will set her straight so don't worry at all", Samantha said with no concern on her face. She must really not like this trainee.

"She isn't a real doctor?", I asked with a shock look and she quickly retracted.

"Oh no no no no, that's not what I meant. I mean she is, but ... you know...her brother died in the same condition and she was in charge. I was just wondering why why parent in their right mind will put the life of their baby in her hands. But don't worry, I'm sure the senior doctors in there will take care of everything".

I cleared my throat and relaxed, "Do you have a problem with this trainee, because my sister is in there and her life depends on this so called trainee with no experience. My mother made a judgment call and now we are in this hot mess. So tell me, is she that useless as you claim and could my sister die in her hands any moment from now?", I couldn't control it any longer. I was getting agitated.

"Oh my goodness. Look I know you are worried, but don't be. I will go check in as much as I can and update you. I don't have a problem with her, just that sometimes she is incompetent and I don't know how to control myself when it comes to her. Excuse me for a moment", she ran off in a hurry leaving me alone to ponder about what just happened. I walked back to the front of the OR and stayed making some calls to Ryan and then to my mother and sending texts about what this doctor whom I don't even remember her name just told me about whoever was in there in charge of my sister's life.
