"This is a very bad idea." Gwen spoke up.
We all ignored her, watching as Kevin put a banana on the teleporter ring. The jagged cuts of the stone just as forbidding as the last time I saw it when Ben got lost on the other side. For him it was a whole day, for us a few minutes.
It's why I kept a tight hold on his hand now. He squeezed back in comfort.
"I mean, we don't even know how to work a Teleporter Pad." Gwen continued to rant.
"Got to start somewhere." Kevin answered, getting up and coming back to the controls.
"Ben, tell Kevin this seems like a very bad idea." Gwen went to look for us, but came up short. Until she saw my eyes peeking over one of the boxes stacked in the corner. "Are you two hiding."
Ben was quick to cut in as both of us stepped out from hiding. "No!" He shot me a worried look, and then made up a lie on the spot. "It's just... if a fly lands on that banana when it teleports and it re-materializes as a deadly banana-fly monster, I don't want to be standing right next to it, is all."
"Don't see the big deal, Tennyson." Kevin shot back, beginning to power up the machine. "Didn't you used to turn into an insect all the time?"
"That was different." Ben muttered.
"Here we go." Kevin said, activating the teleporter.
The banana lifted up, floated there for a minute, then disappeared. A few seconds passed before it reappeared in a flash of blue light, browned and steaming. It slapped against the stone, bubbling up until it exploded yellow goo all over the place.
The machine followed in the act up, sparks flying from it as a humming filled the air.
"That's not good." Kevin muttered, trying to turn it off.
"Turn it off before it blows!" Ben shouted.
Kevin tried but was forced to back off as it steamed. "It's too hot!"
"I know who can take the heat!" Ben didn't hesitate to transform. A flash of green dying down to reveal Swampfire who dove for the controls. Though it was too late as the control panel puffed out smoke and died on us.
The teleporter was not getting any better, the humming becoming a squeal of warning.
"Open the door!" Ben shouted, diving for the machine.
There was no time to argue, or stop Ben from his plan, so we did as he commanded. Gwen launched a slice of her mana, breaking the garage door control. It began to open as Ben threw his weight into lifting the teleporter.
Breaking it from it's base, Ben threw it out of the garage, white light starting to envelope it.
"Everybody down!" Ben shouted.
"I got this!" I threw up a shield of stars at the last moment, protecting us as the machine exploded. I waited until the smoked cleared before I lowered the shield. "Everybody alright?" I asked, panting.
Ben changed back, coming to my side with a nod. Gwen nodded as well.
But Kevin, "Forget that! What about the Teleporter pad?" He rushed for the circle of rock which was even more cracked than before.
Gwen sighed. "Deep down, he's really glad we're okay."
We all joined Kevin outside as he crouched beside the pad, patting at it sadly. "It's totally trashed." He laid his head on it.
"At least we don't have to worry about banana-fly monsters." Ben muttered in relief.
Gwen shot him a glare. I snorted a laugh. Ben smiled with a shrug.
