"Let's settle this, Tennyson." Kevin challenge at the edge of the lake.

I looked over in curiosity, nudging Gwen's side to try and get her out of her sad funk since we got here. But, it didn't work, she huffed instead, and scooted away on the picnic blanket we had brought today. Sighing, myself, I focused back on Kevin and Ben.

Kevin was only in his swim trunks, as well as Ben, which did toss a blush across my cheeks, but Kevin has also covered himself in a layer of rock that he absorbed.

A flash of green and Brainstorm was on the opposite side, puffed up and pincers snapping. He laughed, "My dear Kevin, your nigh gladiatorial bellicosity has once again outpaced your ratiocinative processes."

There was a silent pause after he strung those words together. Kevin even darting a look back at me with a raised brow. I shrugged.

"I don't know what you just said, but-" Kevin leapt into the air, tucking himself into a ball shouting, "Cannonball!" He quite literally hit the water like a rock, sending a huge blast of water all around.

Good thing Gwen and I were far enough away to not get hit.

On the other hand, Brainstorm stood tall at the incoming water, letting his head shell fly open and sending a electric blast to evaporate the water. As the clouds warped away, whatever water he didn't get rained back down into the lake.

Kevin surfaced, spitting out water and treading water as Brainstorm's legs excitedly tip-tapped along the stones.

"Oh, attempting to short me out? " He said. "Before you ever cause such an involuntary cognitive discharge my intense electromagnetic storms would vaporize you. To wit." Then he blasted Kevin right out of the water with a weak electric pulse.

Crashing at my side, I snorted as Kevin's rock layer melted away and he struggled to sit up.

Ben quickly joined us, his crustacean form beaming, and he wasn't even looking at Kevin but me. "As a coda, and at the risk of gilding the lily, I submit..." In a flash of green light he was back to himself. "And I wasn't even thinking hard."

"'Cause you cheated Ben." I piped up.

Ben turned to me, folding his arms while playfully rolling his eyes. "We were both using our powers, it was fair."

"Eh..." I waved my hand side to side. "Super intelligence is always kinda cheating in my books."

"Okay, my little universe, with all your powers your cheating constantly."

I snorted, rolling my eyes.

"Okay, okay, enough flirting." Kevin pointed between the two of us. Ben and I turned red, avoiding meeting each other's eyes, even though we were dating and flirting came with the territory, it was still embarrassing. Kevin covered that part up with a laugh at Ben. "You got me that time! Live and learn, right Gwen?"

We all turned to look at her, but she hadn't moved from the position since moving away from me. So, turned back to them, mouthing, "she's not in the mood." Neither one got a single word of it if their confused head tilts said anything. I huffed, raising a brow and pointing to the lake.

They did not go back to it, instead Ben shook his head a little while badly whispering to Kevin, "She misses Grandpa."

"She was fine in the car." Kevin whispered back, poorly.

"It's my fault. I thought bringing her here would cheer her up." Ben answered, rubbing the back of his head.

Gwen finally spoke up, refusing to face either of them, but answering the unspoken question that had begun to float in the air. "This is Grandpa Max's secret fishing rock. He used to come out here all the time." She finally face us all, slight bags under her eyes. "When he wasn't traveling at least."
