The night was cooler than it had been for the past week. And sitting outside the Rust Bucket with a popsicle like old times, was even better. Leaning back in the lawn chair Ben had found in the back of the RV, we were all relaxing, or at least trying to while also searching for clues to where Grandpa Max would be next.
Kevin was also working on the Rust Bucket, cleaning it up and fixing any wiring or engine parts that needed it.
Beside me, Ben and Gwen were digging through a box of photos. Ben with his own popsicle after I had offered the box I had brought from home. Too bad Gwen didn't want any.
Her laughter cut through the air, and I looked over to see what had gotten her. A photo was clutched in her hands. "Hey Ben, (Y/n), look!" She held out the image, Ben and I leaning towards her to see.
There Grandpa Max stood with a young Gwen, Ben, and myself in front of him. Ben was making a funny face and I was laughing, while Gwen was rolling her eyes in disgust. In the background the Rust Bucket was being towed away.
"It's us in front of the old Rust Bucket." Gwen grinned.
Ben and I snorted.
"It's so like Grandpa Max to loose one dumper then run out and find another." Ben looked over to the current Rust Bucket fondly.
"Can't believe we convinced the tow truck guy to take that photo in the first place." I murmured.
"I know, right." Gwen nodded her agreement.
Ben stood up, starting to pace as he took a bite of his popsicle. "That whole summer was incredible. Remember Gwen, (Y/n)? Hero Time all the time, Kevin was still a bad guy." He shot a playful glare at the working man under the RV.
"Let it go Tennyson." Kevin answered, stopping his work and pulling out from underneath the Rust Bucket. "I know you're here to keep an eye on me." He wiped away some of the oil stains away with a towel.
"Not to mention," Ben continued on, "(Y/n) secretly having powers and not telling us."
I rolled my eyes with a scoff. "It wasn't by choice. Plus, you would have been star struck if I revealed it sooner." I pointed my popsicle stick at him with a smirk.
But then he blushed, running a hand through his brunette hair. Green eyes wide and shining in the moonlight. "I've always been starstruck, comet."
Heat rushed to my face, the nickname echoing in my head and nothing else. "Uh...."
"Gross Tennyson, gross." Kevin cut in, ruining the moment.
Beside me, leaning back in her lawn chair, Gwen was fake gagging but a smile was still on her face as I glared at her.
"What? I'm being honest." Ben exclaimed.
Gwen cut in before the argument could continue. "It's still sweet that you wanted to fix up Rust Bucket two. I'm happy to know it's been cared after even with Grandpa Max missing."
"What can I say, I know my way around cars." Kevin shot Gwen and wink which had her glancing away with a blush.
"Oh, you two don't get to start after making fun of Ben and I." I shouted, standing up. Ben was nodding his head, his arms folded across his chest.
The two ignored it, rolling their eyes while beginning to pack up their things. Gwen with the photos, and Kevin lowering the Rust Bucket to the ground and packing up his tools. As Gwen went to put the photos up though, Kevin darted out to block the entrance.
"Wait! Not yet." Kevin murmured, hovering a hand over Gwen's.
She backed up, clutching at the box as he closed the door.
