  Chapter 5

Karen who had actually changed her name to Maya exchanged numbers with the man. His name was Joe. They began to meet more often. Then the question came up " What will I do about Curtis if he lives with Maya." She came up with an idea. She began to think about how she would set her plan into action. She bagan to take off all the makeup and her drawn on beauty mark. She drove up to Maya's house. Curtis was sitting on the pourch. " Hey stranger," he said. He noticed that Maya didn't get out of the car. " Oh, I guess you noticed that Maya is't with me. You know how I told you that we went to another town? Yea,  we went to Somerset. "She told me to come pick you up so I can take you there she got a job offer," she lied. " But she already has a job," he said. " Yea, I know she has a job as a nurse. But hey this one pays more she's thinking about moving out there and buying another farm," she lied.

    He found it a little suspicious but he just wanted to see his daughter. He got inside the car and they began to drive. They had been driving for about three hours now. She knew it was time for her to do what she wanted to. She drove onto the freeway. " Are you hungry," she asked him. " Yea a little," he replied. " Well I hope you like hospital food,"she laughed.The speed limit was 70 mph and she was going at least 100.

     Before he could say anything she swerved in front of a semi-truck. She began to drive faster until she got closer to the truck. She hopped out of the car and rolled into the street. Curtis still in the car and could not get his seat belt off. The semi-truck crashed into the car. The car was sent airbourne. Glass and car peices went flying everywhere.  Karen ran into the woods and called 911. She layed on the ground until they found her there a couple hours later. The next morning she woke up in the hospital. The police where there and they wanted to know what happened.

     "I lost control of my car and I jump out just in time before the truck hit us." My name is Maya Smith," she said showing them her I.D. Technically she wasn't lying because she changed her name to Maya Smith. " You're not hurt or anything we just wanted to indentify you ma'am," the officer asked. " The man in the passenger's seat is temporally paralized. He should be okay and back to normal if he takes it slow. It will only take like a couple of weeks to a month. He is getting better but he's pretty banged up," the officer said. " And can you identify him to me," he asked. " His name is Curtis Smith. And he's my dad," she said with a light voice.
