Chapter 23 - Clarification necessary (A)

She looked at me and shock is clearly written all over her face.
What I just said is true. I'm done being nice. I'm either getting what I want or nobody is getting it. I waited for a long time, I was being pushed around and the only reason I was willing to wait was that the competition was dead. Now after being able to  see he's well and alive I know who to fight. it's giving me more stability than going against dead and glorified husband.

"Nina... I need to know if you want to be with me or not." I said to get her full attention.
"I don't know." She answered and was staring blankly somewhere through me.
"Up until now I thought Chase loved me for me but he might be as well just following the pull. Am I just a toy for werewolfs so they can chew on me and throw me away? Am I a joke to that Moon Goddess everyone is calling upon?" Nina talks as if in some kind of a trans. I get it, it's a lot to take in for her these days but I can't wait any longer. What if she chooses her husband now that he's not dead?
"I understand it's a lot these days but you need to decide." I know I'm pushing too hard but that's the only way now.

"Will you also throw me away?" She asks suddenly looking at me with an empty stare.
"Never! Mate bond is something I didn't hope for but I'm glad I got it." I say to her the truth. I always wanted to have my mate. Ever since I was forced to be an Alpha I wanted someone who I could trust and who would understand me completely.
"And what if you'd find it's not me who you're pulled to?"  She threw in another question.
"What do you mean?" I ask in return. She is overthinking it I can tell.
"Can someone have two mates?" She continues looking out of the sliding door.
"You'd have to die or reject me so the Moon Goddess will grant me a new mate - maybe."

"Maybe?" She looked at me for the first time and I see she is curious.
"Yes. Not every time the Moon Goddess gives second mates. Warren lost his mate quite young and so far he didn't get any second one."
"I see... but you can choose your partner. I heard you wanted to mark Anita." She said and looked outside the slide door again. It must have been Anita spreading this information purposely so Nina can hear it.
"Yes. We can choose a partner and mark them to make a bond. But this is nothing compared to the relationship between mates. And yes I was thinking of Anita as my Luna because she has everything I wanted from a partner. But now I have you. You are challenging me to adapt, to grow as a leader and that is the benefit you bring to me - as I told you before." I tell her sincerely. It is true I mean every word.

"Are you hesitating because you can't feel anything towards me?" I ask and turn her to face me. She slightly nods.
"I think you can't feel anything because you didn't properly rejected your husband."
"So maybe if I reject him I might be able to feel some kind of pull?"
"Maybe..." I say looking her straight into her eyes.
"I am willing to try it. Are you?"
"But why are you going to such an extent for me? You barely know me." Again overthinking, I guess that's her thing.
"Nina. For most of werewolves there is only one mate. I want to make sure I tried everything. If nothing works then we can go separate ways. If Moon Goddess blesses me with another mate I'll be happy. But I did many horrible things so just being able to experience this kind of bond once in my lifetime is something I'm grateful for." I gently push her towards the couch. She lets me lead her there and sits automatically.

"Ok... it's late. We should talk about how it's going to be with a pack. Also tomorrow Cathy is coming back and I'm going to work tomorrow evening. We should..."
"Nina!" I stop her and she looks at me. "So what? Are we going to try proper rejection? Because I need us to be clear on what is coming next." I clarify with her.
"Ok, let's try it." She agrees.
"Great. Let's meet him tomorrow at your workplace then." I offer her. She nodded tightly and that's enough for me.

I sent her to her room and stayed in the living room by myself. Replaying the events of this night over and over again. I'm trying to figure things out. When Mr. Nikson confirmed the name, Garret was so cocky that he knew it I wanted to punch him. We agreed we will take care of it and he left. Right after he left Chase appeared so he must have been on Nikson's tail the whole time and somehow hide his scent so we didn't smell anything.
He asked the same thing as Nikson but was less secretive about it. We exchanged numbers and he said we can meet anytime. So he is not hiding his intentions but at the same time he is not keeping tabs on us since he didn't ask about Nina or Michael...
Or he is just pretending so we wouldn't guess he is watching us. I can't imagine rejecting my pregnant mate and then not making any effort to know if she or the baby is alright. He must've been getting information about her there is no way any werewolf would be capable of doing this to his mate. I can understand rejecting my mate to protect her but to do so and not knowing how is she doing would make me lose my mind completely. And even though Chase looks like he can do business he doesn't seem like the insane man.
Nina said she will try to reject him and I'm really not sure how will everything unfold if he will still show interest in her. Now I see my mind spinning all kinds of scenarios that are possible and also absolutely absurd.
Well...There is only one way to figure things out.
I take out my phone and type a message
"Crystal Club, private room number 3, 10pm"
A few seconds later the answer lights up my screen...
"Ok"
