Chapter 12 - "Come pick us up." (G)

"Garret, you're meeting the envoys of Luminous Star pack in 30 minutes."
Anita reminded me as she passed by me to get to Alastair in Alpha's office. He lifted his head a bit and reached out with his hand when she got closer.

She held his hand in hers and went behind him to massage his shoulders. I know what's coming next, she gave me a hint with that reminder - I'm meeting them literally on a backyard so why else should I free the space...

"Alpha." I gave a small salute to him and he waved to let me go. I almost got out of the office when Alpha's phone started ringing on the conference table near the exit. I brought it to him. He picked up and selected handsfree so he could have his hands on Anita in his lap.

"Yes!" He said with his head buried in Anita's long and curly hair. She started to unbutton his shirt when the voice from the phone stuttered.
"Ehm... hi... this is Cathy Gallagher... um..."
Alpha peeked from the hair curtain and gave the phone a stare.
"Do you remember me? I live with Nina."
*thud!*
"Ouch! Al! What the fuck!"
That was a noise of Anita being thrown away from Alpha's lap. Spectacular view if I might say - her landing skills are great, I guess it's not the first time someone flipped her ass off of them.

It's been almost a month since that crazy weekend at Lindy Highs. Alpha's mate pull towards human dancer messed up the whole operation in the club and then the trouble with getting her outside the club and everything in the next days was just too dramatic. I almost forgot about that because everything looks the same again.

Why should I even care about that girl - Nina. When Alpha came back the Sunday he spoke with her he started again with Anita. I don't know if it's possible during the mating pull to have an affair with someone else but our Alpha was sleeping around his whole life so I wouldn't be surprised if the bond wasn't that strong for him. Anyway now it looks more like he's not completely over it.
"Yes I remember you." She got all his attention and Anita was slowly collecting herself, her dignity and lipstick from the ground.

"Nina is in hospital and I don't know what to do..."
He almost tipped over the marble table he was sitting behind, the chair flew to the ground almost hitting Anita. That girl took a spoonful of rejection today I hope she will not choke on it as she swallow...
"Which hospital?"
"I don't know they said they'll call me after they figure out what's going on."
"I'm on my way!"

He snapped his fingers on me to get my attention away from swearing Anita.
"Garret, find out where she is I'm going to that house and I'll let you know if they call sooner."
"Sure." I answered and walked away. I managed to hear also Alpha's last instructions before the elevator closed.
"Anita, cancel all meetings today!"

I sat down at my office and started to dial numbers of our protégés in hospitals around the town. We sponsor some med. students to get access to reliable medical care everywhere - you know, we need to have someone who will mistake claws scratches for an 'accidental injury caused by common household object' in every hospital we're nearby.

So far I had no luck. I took systematic approach and called the hospitals close to Lindy Highs...
"Garret, she's in the University Hospital! Make sure they'll be on top of it!" Alpha mind linked.
What is she doing there? Does she not have an insurance or what?
I called the hospital, asked for Melissa and I made sure she understood what we expect.

I should head there myself, they're changing shifts soon so just to make sure. Alpha would shred my skin off if something happens to her. He might have look like everything is as usual and associate himself with Anita but what I've seen seems to me like once Nina is his mate pull and she didn't reject him so he'll protect her no matter what.

I walked towards the elevator and I've seen Anita with the phone.
"Okay, bye." She slammed the phone as she saw me coming.
"You found her?" She asked.
"Alpha did..." mind linked and I made the arrangements. But why don't make her jealous even more?
Bitterness was written all over her face but she tried to hide it.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to have Anita as Luna. She doesn't have that vibe I remember Luna should have. Anita is a snake that's gonna bite you in the forest, not the bright light that will lead you out of the darkness. She doesn't seem to care about anyone but herself and Alpha. Nina has that bright and caring vibe but I can be wrong. After all she's just a human who knows nothing about Alphas and Lunas. How would she react to werewolf world?

Elevator almost closed on me in the garage as I was lost in thoughts. I'll take the bigger car in case... of what? I don't know... but whatever I'll take it.

As I drive towards the hospital I got a command from Alpha.
"Come pick us up!"
