Elise's POV
I wake up the next morning from a wonderful dream, I know this sounds odd and immature but I dreamed of a wonderfully handsome man. He was tall and very handsome with shaggy almost red hair. When I reached out for him he felt real and I even dragged him into bed with me. We didn't do anything but lay and to be honest I liked being with him. What the heck am I even saying?! It was just a dream Elise. I get up out of bed and walk into the small bathroom attached to my room. Once I look at the mirror and run my hands through my hair I just sigh. I wish he were real. I loved his accent too. I swear if anyone hears this they would think I was crazy.
I sigh as I put on a long sleeve green shirt, dark blue pants and light brown riding boots. I knew how to dress for cold weather trust me. I walk out of the room and into the hall where I see Grandpa coming my way with a smile on his face. I wonder how he managed to loose Grandma?
"Morning Darlin." Grandpa says as he hugs me. "You like it here?"
"I love it, I swear it feels like I have been here before." I tell him as we start our way to the stairs.
"Maybe you were here in a past life, with a highlander oh I am sure your grandma would love that." Grandpa tells me with a chuckle.
"Oh yeah, could you picture that? A tall handsome warrior married to someone like me? Ha I would be the laugh of the clan." I tell him with a laugh.
We finally make it to the stairs and we start down.
"Not that hard to imagine, your are stubborn enough to take on any man, even a Highlander at that." Grandpa continues our discussion.
"You're just saying that because I am your granddaughter." I tell him with a smile.
"No, I can brag like that because you are my granddaughter. I believe you could do anything Elise and I mean anything." Grandpa says as we reach the bottom. "I think you'll like it for the month we are stuck here."
"I can only imagine what sister did to convince him to rent this place for a whole month?" I ask him.
"Nothing I want to know about." My grandfather says raising his hands in surrender.
We make our way to the dinning room after several wrong turns. I swear everything in this place must have been specifically made for this place. We sit down as Mr. Grady comes up to us with a big smile on his face.
"Would ya like to hear a story lass? Your not afraid of ghosts now are ya?" he asks me with a grin.
"I wouldn't think so since I don't believe in them." I tell him with a giggle.
"Oh now that's just cause ya ain't seen one. We even have one here. A male ghost, a Highlander." Grady tells me.
All the sudden the dream I had last night flashes into my head. I remember the man, I remember a kiss. Oh my god was I kissed by a ghost? I look back to Grady who is still smiling.
"He was the Lord here once, loved by all of his people including his wife Brighid. Though things were not to be happy in his life. Weeks after they were married the young Queen was murdered in cold blood not too far from this very castle. After her death some say he went mad and locked himself up here in this very castle. People still say they see him searchin for her. Keep an eye out lass, many say he is quite handsome." Grady tells us with a laugh.
"How awful, his wife murdered? Who would do such a thing?" I ask Grady.
"Oh lass people from all lands wanted to take this land and claim it for themselves. Any of them could have done it." Grady explains.
"I feel sorry for him then, loosing someone he loved so soon. It would be enough to drive anyone mad." I tell him as I look back to Grandpa who just smirks at me.
"My granddaughter, she even feels bad for spirits." Grandpa says with a chuckle.
Errol's POV
I over hear Grady telling the story of well me sort of. His version has always been too short for me. Still after he was finished she said she felt sorry for me. She may no have her memories but I know that compassion, the same that Brighid had. I had to see her face to face, for her to acknowledge me.
"Excuse me Mr. Grady is there a place perhaps I could get some work done? A library perhaps?" I hear the woman ask him.
"Aye, I could take ya to it if ya like?" Grady tells her.
"That would be wonderful" the woman says.
After I give them some time I go to the library and see her sitting on a couch before the fire. She looks peaceful as she reads the book for a few moments but then I see her lay down upon the couch while still trying to read but her eyes slowly close and sleep over takes her. This is my chance, she'll still think I'm a dream. I go to her and kneel down beside the couch taking her hand in mine.
"Brighid?" I ask her hoping to hear an answer this time. "Can ya hear me lass?"
I see her start to stir but it doesn't seem to wake her. I put my hand on her cheek and she barely moves. Then I lean in and place my lips on hers. Just to feel her lips on mine is like heaven the something happens that I didn't expect. I feel her push me away.
"Who the hell are you?!" she yells at me now fully awake as she jumps behind the couch.
"Brighid love? Ya tryin to tell me you've forgotten your own husband?" I ask her.
"You are crazy! I don't know you! How did you even get in here?" she yells as I try to walk to her but she keeps backing away from me.
"This is our home lass, don't ya remember me?" I ask her again.
"What part of no don't you understand? Did you escape from the local looney bin?" she asks looking around the room.
"Looney bin? I'm afraid I don't know what ya mean love." I say as she goes to stand in front of the fireplace.
"I'm not your love, please stop calling me that!" she yells at me then grabs the fire poker and points it at me. "Don't come any closer! You hear me ghost boy?!"
"Ghost boy? Ah the story Grady told ya. I can tell ya lass I ain't no ghost. Remember our kisses? I believe they were quite real." I tell her.
Her eyes go wide and she drops the fire poker. I think I may have put her into shock now though.
"Let me remind you love, of what we once had." I say as I walk forward and she just watches me with her eyes.
"Listen whoever you are not that I'm not flatter by being hit on but uh this is impossible." she says keeping her hands up against me as some form of defense.
"Nothing is impossible love, I have waited over three hundred years for ya to return to me." I tell her as I gently put my hand on her cheek.
"Three hundred years?! There is no way! Are you some kind of actor or something? If so bravo you play the part well." she says as she tries to turn away but I pull her back to me.
"I am Errol, the Lord and King of this castle and you are Brighid my wife returned to me." I tell her as I grab her face and kiss her again.
When I release her from our kiss she still looks up at me with her eyes wide.
"I'm not Brighid, I'm sorry but I'm not. My name is Elise and I'm not even from here. I'm from America." she tells me as she backs away from me. "Brighid died, Grady told me that but you couldn't accept it and you went mad."
"I didn't go mad, I made a vow that I would find you and be with you together again." I tell her as I walk to her again.
"I'm so sorry but your wrong, I am still trying to figure out how you are still alive, I mean I can tell you are real but...that shouldn't be possible." she tells me as she pokes my chest.
I didn't know what to say, whatever the fool who killed her did he must have also cursed her to forget her memories. I would do all that I could to return them though no matter what I had to do.
