Chapter 2: Shepherds (4)

Vaike's PoV

I hurriedly scurried over to the never ending with the Wary and Virion's  where they looked like they needed the help of the one and only Vaike! I quickly readied my trusty axe and focused my sights on the enemy.

"INCOMING!!" I shouted as I stormed in between them. Risen limbs and dust scattered everywhere as I continued my heroic assault when I heard Virion shout from afar, "Vaike, on your right!" Quickly acknowledging his warning, I parried the incoming blade as a arrow paralyzed it's arms granting me the chance to finish the ghoul-lookin' thing off.

"RAAAAUUGGH!" I yelled as I skillfully sliced it in half. "Heh, no sweat at all!"

"We need to press on, Chrom and Robin may need assistance to fight what look like the Risen leader." Frederick told us. Virion and I both nodded and made our advance toward the prince and the tactician.

Chrom's PoV

"Up ahead! I see him!" I told Robin. The Risen chief was almost in attacking range, I knew it wouldn't be an easy fight. "I'll distract him with my magic and rush him with you!" My snowy-haired ally told me. I nodded in approval and sped up my advance. I got into my attack stance and was ready to pierce the undead flesh at a moments notice. The Risen chief let out an ear-piercing cry as I was nearing it's vision and soon began to lunge at me, but in bullet time his eyes were lit in a crimson flame and I managed to cut it's chest...'Dang it...it's not deep enough to actually wound!' I jumped back in anticipation of a counter attack when Robin jumped in front of the empty space where my body once consumed to block the attack. I heard him mumble some incantations and a fierce wind was unleashed from his hand, pushing the monster back. For some reason, I felt some blow from behind, but I quickly ignored it and begun my advance again until I was halted by Robin.

"Incoming!!!" I heard Vaike's voice from afar. I looked behind me and saw Vaike elevated in the air from Robin's wind. He tossed his axe as it made a quick descend from the air, piercing the same cut I made and he dropped down and quickly, but viciously ripped it out of his chest. Followed by a distance attack of an arrow that punctured the Risen's shoulder. I heard it menacing groan in pain.

"Commander Chrom! Let's finish this thing off!" I heard Stahl treading up from behind and made my way toward the beast. I jumped up in the air with Stahl by my side as we removed its head and lower torso. "Alright! We did it!" I heard Vaike say.

Robin's PoV

Aside from Sully's minor injuries, everyone turned out just fine. I checked up on Sully once more to see if we were able to press on."I'm damn sure well enough to keep traveling!" she said with a smirk. Just before I went to relay the info to Chrom I was stopped by Sumia, "Robin, I just wanted to tell you that you were amazing out there! I-I don't think I'd be able to handle everyone like that under pressure...if it's possible...could we spar so I could learn how to fight better...?" I grinned a little and replied, "Of course Sumia, anything to help out one of my fellow comrades. And thank you."

Along our path we encountered a seriously injured Pegasus. I looked at Chrom with worried eyes and back at the injured animal. He cautiously walked up it before he was almost stomped down to the ground.

"Gods! This thing is crazy...!" He yelled and jumped away from it. "Chrom are you alright?" I asked. He nodded slightly as I sighed. "Um...Commander, might I be of some assistance?" I heard Sumia say. "Stay away, this beast is out of it's mind!" he tried to warn her but she just shook her head and slowly approached the Pegasus. "There there it's okay..." she soothed, "I won't hurt you." Sumia began to softly stroke the animal and smiled. "Amazing...." I silently gasped. "I'll stay behind and dress her wounds. You guys can go ahead to Regna Ferox." Chrom and I nodded as we began to press onward.

"Stay safe..." I heard Sumia whisper in my ear as I walked by.

'Stay safe...I've heard someone say those words to me before...but who?'
