Stiles POV:
"So X equals..." I stare at the paper in my lap. After twenty minutes of arguing about what to work on first, Lydia suggested that we get the hardest out of the way. We sat on opposite ends of the living room couch, our legs crossed and facing each other."29?" I knew the answer. I just needed to fill the roll of "dumb jock" like always. Lydia nods and closes her math book, setting it on the coffee table. "We have another twenty to go." I say and she sighs.
"Can I have a conversation with you?" She asks.
"Uhhhhh..." I slowly close my book and place it next to hers. "As awkwardly as you asked that question, yes I suppose."I stare down at my hands, taking a pen and outlining all the small lines on my palm.
"You don't have to play dumb around me. You know that, right?" Her voice is soft and I glance up at her before continuing my outlining. I couldn't look at her otherwise I would give in. She made me nervous, I couldn't explain it because it doesn't even understand myself.
"Play dumb?" I question. She starts to pick at her nails before continuing. "Yes, Stiles. You always pretend to be dumb when I know you're really a genius."
I furrow my brows. "Yeah right, I'm no genius."
Lydia takes the pen from my hand, softly and I look up at her. Her eyes are unnaturally green when she wears her contacts and in a way they're kind of freaky."You are. Other people might not notice it but I do. You don't have to play dumb around me."
I grin and keep looking into her toxic green eyes. It was odd being around her. I'd always thought of Lydia as the nerd and teachers pet, never anything more than a walking brain. But it was different now. When she dressed confident, she became more of herself. All of a sudden she would start conversations with me whereas she used to just stay silent and observe. I liked this Lydia better."You're staring." She speaks and blink rapidly to break my gaze.
"S-sorry... Your eyes just really stand out with the contacts." I stutter. God I was stuttering! I'd lost the habit after becoming popular but it always seemed to come back when I was around her. She stares down at her lap."So now that we've covered math I actually really suck and science." She says with a slight smile.
I purse my lips. "Hmm. Well sucks to suck cause I'm actually really good at science."
She chuckles a little and I start to search through my backpack. This was not good."Ummm... Actually I think my Science crap is upstairs so we can just migrate to my room." I say. We both stand and grab our bags, climbing the stairs of knowledge(ba dum tss). I didn't want to go upstairs! And especially to my bedroom she might get the wrong idea...
I open the door to my room, gesturing for her to step in first. She thanks me before stepping inside, her eyes immediately examining the walls.
"I'll go ahead and look up the assignment." I point towards my laptop on the desk and she nods, sitting on the end of my bed. Plopping down in my desk chair, I start to clatter on my laptop keyboard."You play guitar?" I whip around in my chair to see her staring at the instrument in the corner of my room. I sigh.
"Uh, a little... If 'twinkle twinkle little star' counts. But I do know all the chords." I turn back around, searching the school website."Would you mind if I..." She gestures towards it and I shrug.
"Go ahead! This may take awhile." I say and I can hear her get off of the bed and grab the instrument. She tunes it for a little bit before quietly strumming a song. I grin slightly but as I'm not facing her, she couldn't see causing me to fully smile when she starts to hum. I continue typing and searching for Harris' missing chemistry assignment."A thousand miles seems pretty far but they've got planes and trains and cars! I'd walk to you if I had no other way." She sings, barely audible. I slowly stop typing as she finishes the rest of the song. My heart skips a beat. Was I starting to like Lydia Martin?

Lydia's POV:
After awkwardly replacing the guitar in its stand, I take my place back on the end of Stiles' bed. He slowly turns around in his chair to face me, clearing his throat.
"I-I can't find the assignment." He stutters and I fall back on the mattress.
"Harris can screw himself anyways."
