"I'll break down your walls one by one and sneak into the gates of your icy heart before crushing it into tiny pieces." He murmurs mercilessly as his lips lightly brush my ear, the contact eliciting an indescribable sensation through every inch of m...

A cacophony of screeching and wheel rotations can only come from cars going at an incredibly high speed.
The sound effects gradually dissipate before I can decipher what's going on.
I stay glued to the floor for a few more minutes.
"They're gone," Ludovic signals.
I swing my restless gaze to his before he's first to arise from the floor.
From a downward angle, he extends his hand to me.
I grab his hand instantly before he helps me to get on my feet.
"What the hell was that?!" I exclaim in apprehension.
"That would be the second assassination attempt." Veles snarls, his frame still on high alert.
All I see is red.
With a mind of their own, my feet march to the main door entrance.
"Anaya, wait!"
I keep marching to the opposite direction before I swing the door open.
Once I spot one of the security guards standing in the middle of the road staring into the horizon, I make a beeline to his direction.
Sensing my incoming presence, the security guard whirls around.
"What the heck just happened?!" I bellow once I'm within earshot.
"Ma'am, I apologize," wide-eyed, he raises his hands in a surrendering gesture, "Everything happened so fast that the shooter attacked from afar before making his escape."
My brows furrow, "Where's Kace?!"
"He's tailing the rifle shooter as we speak," he reveals, "After we aimed multiple shots at the attacker through his windshield, he sped past us and escaped."
"This is completely unacceptable," I sigh in frustration, "I hired you both to enforce my security. Something like this should have never happened based on your military background."
Pointing my finger to Ludovic's approaching figure, I snap, "If it wasn't for Ludovic's quick reflexes, I would've been shot once again, dammit!"
"I'm sorry ma'am," he says in a mixture of distress and dejection, "We made a lapse of judgment."
"Something like this can't happen again," Ludovic's commanding voice grabs our attention, "Her protection should be your top priority."
The security guard's expression is stoic, "Yessir!"
As we stand in the middle of the deserted road, I do my best to ignore the swarm of incoming neighbouring witnesses.

The next day has been overwhelming to say the least.
To avert another calamity, I paid the witnesses to the attack to keep their testimony confidential.
