After our heated conversation, Yara avoids me throughout the party.

I don't take it personally because I know it's a bridge we had to cross at some point.

The next few hours comprise one-on-one conversations.

I end up returning to the kitchen only to have a conversation with Devin while some of the others hang around in the living room.

"When were you going to tell me that moron's now living at your place?" Devin gets straight to the point.

Sighing in exasperation, I throw him a deadpan look.

I keep reminding myself to stay calm whenever Devin gets incredibly overprotective of me like this.

Call it his brotherly instincts.

"I didn't know I had to run who I get to invite to my place by you," is my deadpan reaction.

"You don't need to give me attitude," is his calmer response, "Do you just expect me to watch him crawl his way back into your life and forget all the shit he put you through?"

Despite the tumultuous journey Ludovic and I have had to traverse in the past, we've come a long way.

As the days pass, we continue to make progress.

It's amazing what both of us can achieve when we set aside our pride to work together as a team.

But no amount of time will be sufficient to convince Devin that Ludovic's changed—that we've both changed.

"You need to accept the fact that he's important to me," I set the record straight, "And he's been an incredible support after everything I've been through this year."

Unconvinced, Devin gently shakes his head. "I just hope you know what you're doing. I don't want you to get hurt again. . .like last time."

His words carry hidden meanings.

How can they not, after he witnessed the countless sleepless nights I drowned myself in tears in my room following the gut-wrenching decision I made to break up with Ludovic in college due to blackmail.

In Devin's twisted way, he is trying to protect me.

And I can't blame him for it, despite getting an earful of his frequent negative remarks about Ludovic.

From the corner of my eye, I spot Ludovic interacting with my parents.

I never expected to live in a world where my parents were willing to tolerate his presence.

I guess pigs really are flying.

From the looks of it, their conversation seems serious based on their unreadable expression.

Just what could they be talking about?

Amidst their conversation, Ludovic pauses to meet my gaze.
