"I'll break down your walls one by one and sneak into the gates of your icy heart before crushing it into tiny pieces." He murmurs mercilessly as his lips lightly brush my ear, the contact eliciting an indescribable sensation through every inch of m...

If inferno exists on earth, I'm living in it.
Paralyzed, I fail to process the horror before me.
It's all your fault.
If you hadn't lost your temper, he'd still be here.
The torrential tears turn into an ocean, as I refuse to part from him.
"Someone, please do something!" I wail as my fingers tremble while I desperately try to tug his shirt.
The next thing I remember is Devin bursting into the room.
"Where did he go?!"
Transfixed, I cup Ludovic's cheeks, waiting for him to come back to me to confirm this is all just a terrible nightmare.
But he never does.
"Get a hold of yourself!" Devin kneels down to my level, grabbing my arms brusquely before shaking some sense into me, "The medics will be here at any time, and you need to pull yourself together so we can track down Cohen!"
"I-Is he really gone?!" I yelp in agony, shaking my head in denial, "He'll be okay, right?!"
Devin's silence speaks a thousand words.
I'd give anything to remove the agonizing pain crippling my bones.
"Say something," my breath hitches, "Tell me he's coming back—"
"I don't know." Devin interjects in sternness.
As if it isn't enough, he criticizes, "How could you let that criminal escape?! We were this close to subduing the target!"
"That's all you care about?!" I vociferate amidst the numbness, "Ludovic is our priority! I couldn't care less about whether or not that sick psycho escaped!"
Although Devin is considering proceeding with the operation, our plans have been significantly upended under the circumstances.
All that matters to me is for Ludovic to undergo immediate surgery.
The next minutes transpire in a blurry mess.
I remember paramedics flooding the room with their medical equipment to lug Ludovic's body onto the stretcher before dashing to the exit.
They speed against time, clearing the pathways in the hall to push the stretcher towards the emergency exit staircase.
Guests from the ballroom segregate to the foyer, observing the pandemonium in panic.
What follows once we exit the building is utter chaos.
In my desperate attempt to enter the ambulance's patient compartment, a male medic halts me in my tracks.
"Only family members are allowed to enter," he declares sternly, "Unless you're a family member, we need you to step aside!"
"I need to accompany him!" I choke in between sobs, "You don't understand, he's everything to me!"
