"Want me to take her up to bed before everyone wakes up?"
"That's probably a good idea. How much sleep do you think she got?"
"No idea, darling. Let's just get her comfy."
I feel my body get picked up by a pair of strong arms and about a minute later, I'm on a cosy bed with the covers pulled up around me. I wonder what the time is. It must be early if they're the only ones up. But I hate them right now so I don't care.
I go back to sleep for what feels like another hour before everyone else starts getting up and making noise. I go on Facebook and mindlessly scroll for ages, listening to people leave the house. At 9, there's no one left but Josh and me. I guess now is a good time to get up and have a glass of water. That's been my breakfast for the last 10 months so I don't want it to change now.
I get out of bed and get to the bottom of the stairs before I become lost. Where's the kitchen?
The house, as I've discovered, has two halves to each floor. I don't know which half the kitchen is on.
I make my way to the dining room, hoping it is near there before I get to hear the sound of the radio in the background. I follow it and find Josh in the extremely large kitchen tiled black and red.
"Morning, Eve." Josh grins, flipping a pancake. "I hope I didn't wake you up?" I shake my head and try to locate a glass to drink out of somewhere. "Want some breakfast? I make really good pancakes and I don't usually share so this is really a one time offer." He turns around, plating a pancake. It looks good but I can't eat in the morning because Dad will-
Dad isn't here.
I still can't bring myself to it.
I shake my head and sit at the island near the cooker.
"How about a drink?" He sits opposite me, sprinkling sugar over his pancake then rolling it up. I nod, hopeful. He gets up and goes to the cupboard to the right of the cooker, getting a glass out of it. Well... I've learnt something today already and I'm not even in school.
"There's a lot to drink, so help yourself to whatever is in the fridge." He handed me the glass and sat down again. I get up and walk straight over to the sink, filling the glass up with cold water and walking back over to sit down. "Or you can have some water, that's cool, too." He rolled his eyes at me and got to eating while I got to drinking.
I suddenly get a text and take my phone out of my pocket. Phoebe. I'm not going to lie, Phoebe is my closest friend out of everyone.
9:13 Phoebe
Physics is so boring. Shoot me.
9:13 Me
What's the topic?:(
9:14 Phoebe
Terminal velocity. Just fucking kill me, dude.
"Oooooh, you are you textin'?" Josh asks like a 12 year old girl. I show him the screen with the newest messages on. They aren't really private messages so I don't really care about him knowing how boring Phoebe thinks Physics is. "Is she a friend back in Wiltshire?" I nodded sadly.
"My mum and dad let friends visit, Eve. If you want them to come down during the half term holidays, I'm pretty sure they'd be able to." Josh reassured me. I don't think there would be anymore room in this house for 5 friends to visit.
