Sunday goes by so fast that I am shocked when my alarm goes off on Monday morning to wake me up for my first day, or morning, of school. I was too tired to shower again as I had showered late last night. I have to make a good first impression to my new peers. I mean, I look like a walking skeleton who may smile from time to time but I need to look decent enough for that to happen.
I change into a skirt, tights, shirt, hoodie and then put my blazer on top. My old school bag had my pens and equipment that I managed to buy at the end of the summer so I was still ready. My hair looked semi okay. I had braided it last night when it was wet so it would be wavy and dry this morning. I think I like it, I'm not too sure.
I go downstairs and into the kitchen where everything is still as manic as I remember. Nathan and Ethan were fighting over the toy in the cereal box while Robert tried to resolve it. I get a little worried. I sit with Jacob and Josh and drink a glass of water.
"Excited?" Josh wiggles his eyebrows at me.
"Extatic. Can't wait. I'm completely overjoyed." I responded.
"Less of the sarcasm." He laughed. "I'll be picking you up at 1:30 in reception. You're going to get your cast off first and then... we get lunch." He thankfully didn't say it.
"Cool." I nodded and yawned.
"Is that all you're having for breakfast? Today is going to be a big day, Eve, you need something else to keep you going?" Luke asks and gently knocks my foot under the table. Or I think it is him.
"I think I'm too nervous to eat right now." I replied truthfully.
"Please have an apple or something? It would be bad if you passed out at school." Helena says down the table. Talk about attracting attention. I hold my eye roll and get up and take an apple from the fruit bowl that sat on the island.
I sit back down and play with it in my hands briefly. Dad isn't here. Dad won't hurt me. I am allowed this. I can have this apple.
I take a small bite quickly and chew it. Luke gives me a reassuring smile and goes to eat his breakfast.
I finish the apple, surprisingly. I finish it and then Zack is dragging me out the front door after throwing my lunch into my school bag. Tom and Marcus had already left and Jacob was going to leave a little after us.
"I've got to take you to reception first to get your timetable and then I have to take you up to tutor. Tutor lasts like 20 minutes depending on whether or not Mr Anderson wants us in his class. He's normally hungover on Monday mornings. Scratch that, every morning. He normally lets us just do what we want in tutor as long as it's not illegal." Zack explains to me on the way. The more we walk, the more teenagers I see dressed in the same school uniform. I don't even know the school name.
"Has anything illegal happened in there?" I get myself talking to distract myself.
"Yeah, actually. There's a boy called Peter who dealed some drugs to Matthew so I'd watch out for them. No one told on them though, simply out of fear that Peter would gut you in your sleep." Zack literally shivered at the thought. I don't blame him.
"What even is comprehensive school?" I was scared now. Is everyone like this? I can't make friends if everyone is like this. I'll end up sticking with Zack and he'll soon get annoyed at me and start to hate me.
"It's not that bad. I've been to worse schools so don't worry. Plus, you've got me and the other boys to look out for you." He gave me a cheesy grin.
