((Sorry it's been forever. I'm finally on Christmas break so maybe this story will be wrapping up soon. I hope you enjoy this chapter. It's short but to the point.

Can't wait for the Freed to come to theaters!! Has anyone read Darker from Christian's POV yet?"

The room is quiet following Elena's story. Genevieve looks mortified, Hyde looks like he could kill someone, and I didn't realise how tight I was holding Christian's hand until now.

"Mrs. Lincoln, you are sure that your story is true?"

"I swear." Mr. Matthews nods his head and stands straighter, taking his weight off the table.

"You may step down Mrs. Lincoln." The judge excuses her and she walks back to her seat with out so much as a glance in our general direction. "Mr. Matthews, is it alright if we bring the boy back in?" Our lawyer nods. "Please bring Kenneth in and show him to the stand."

The court officer does as Judge Martha asks.

"Mr. Matthews due to your last witness and turn, Mr. Lawson will be the first up to question." She scribbles something down on a piece of paper and Mr. Matthews sits down beside Christian.

"Yes, Your Honor." As soon as he takes his seat, The officer is leading Kenneth back to the room and gestures towards the stand. Seeming unaffected, Kenneth hops up into the high chair and gazes out into the crowd. When he spies me and his father he little lips twitch into a reassuring smile.

"Hi, Kenneth. I'm Mr. Lawson." Hyde's attorney starts.

"I know." Kenneth's response gets a few laughs from people behind us.

"Why don't you tell me about yourself? I heard you were a big fan of planes."

"Yes! I actually collect planes. My aunt found my first plane for me, it was missing a wing so it couldn't fly as well as the other planes, but it was a really cool model. My dad said that he would take me to tour a plane museum. We haven't gone yet, but now that his head is better we can go, right?" He directs his question to Christian who smiles fondly at his son and nods. '

How did I get so lucky with these two?

"Kenneth, what do you think is the difference between these two women?" Mr. Lawson gestures behind him to Genevieve and me.

"One gave birth to me and one loves and raises me."

"How do you know only one of these women loves you?"

"Because only one has proven it." Mr. Lawson nods, I'm assuming he wasn't expecting such an answer from a young kid. Frankly, neither was I. Oh yeah, that's my son!

"What's your definition of a mom?" Kenneth looks confused, or maybe he is trying to come up with an answer.

"A woman who raises a kid. She didn't have to give birth to them. A mom is someone who provides." With Kenneth's answer, any question Mr. Lawson asks next wouldn't work in his favor, there's no way.

"No more questions." Mr. Lawson does the walk of shame over to his chair. His clients are fuming. It's actually kind of funny to watch.

"Mr. Matthews, do you have any questions?" The Judge asks.

"Yes, Your Honor." He stands, straightens his jacket, and rounds the table.

"Kenneth, I'm not going to take up much more of your time, or anyone else's, so I'll make this quick." Kenneth nods. "Do you know what it mean when someone says parents are unfit or an unfit parent?"

Christian's hand creeps over and captures mine.

"It means they don't deserve a kid."

"Yes. Now, I was told your aunt, who you knew as your mother for the longest time, told you about how you came to her. Would you mind retelling that story, including your living conditions?"

"She came home drunk one night with a big baggie full of clothes for me. My last two pairs of jeans were too small and all my shirts had holes in them. After I gave her water and dinner, she just started talking. She told me she wasn't my mom and that she was my aunt. I was told that my...mother didn't want me. She told my aunt she never cared to see me again."

"How was the house you lived in?" My mind immediately thinks of the old house Kenneth insisted on saying goodbye to when we went to pick him up for the first time. I hate thinking, knowing, that my son lived there. How could any woman do that to her child?

"My room was the one in the back of the house with moldy walls and only half of the room had carpet. There were stains all over the house. My aunt took care of me for a while, but once I could walk she backed off and food got less and less. Any toy of mine, she got off the street."

Mr. Matthews paces the floor between us and Kenneth. My nerves are on edge.

"Did you ever have any contact with your mother? Your biological mother?" I glance over to Genevieve who is already throwing daggers my way.

"No." Kenneth looks bored out of his mind, not understanding why he is up there. I don't see the point in that question either, didn't we already cover that?

"Now, do you remember my first question?" The boy nods. "Would you say Ms. Everett and Mr. Hyde are unfit parents?"

((According to the picture up there, yeah, I'd say he was an unfit parent.

Thoughts?))
