Chapter Eight – Lilia
The past cannot be changed, forgotten, or erased, it can only be accepted.
“Open your front door and guess who!” a high pitched voice screamed over the phone.
I run downstairs and fling open the door to find my best friend Jayne standing there with a huge smile on her face. Her face is as white as ever but her curly light brown hair is as curly as ever. I smile and hug her fiercely. “You're back! Finally! Did that bloodhound finally find your stupid passport?” I laugh into her shoulder.
I hear her laugh, “Ya. The bloodhound found my passport in my grandmother's bunnies rabbit hole. You do not have a clue how long I had to dig to get that passport.”
I laugh harder. Jayne working? What a sight to see. We finally stop hugging and she stares at me, “You look different. I don't know what it is but you look different.”
“Sorry?”
“It's a good different!” she shrieks.
I take her hand and we walk on the wrap around porch to the back sitting area my mom constructed a year ago. It has a swinging bench which we both painted and repainted. We sit down and Jayne laughs, “Did you guys repaint this thing again?”
I look around surprised. There is, in fact, a different pattern. What used to be a pattern of unusual, colorful flowers is now exotic birds. “I didn't but I guess my mom did.”
Jayne smiles, “Of course she did... Sooo... How's Caleb.”
My chest tightens and I look down.
“What is it? What did he do? Which form of torture should I use?” Jayne quickly asks as she notices my face.
“I caught him... Cheating on me... On our six month anniversary,” I whisper.
“WHAT?” Jayne shrieks.
“I said-”
“No I heard you but I cannot believe it. He- I mean he-... I am going to kill that scum bag! How could he do that to you- Wait... Did you say that you caught him?” Jayne rambles. I can already see the wheels in her head turning.
I nod, “He texted to come over to his house around six. A text that probably wasn't meant for me. But I got there about fifteen minutes late because I screwed up the wrapping on his present... I knocked on his door for about another five minutes and when I didn't open the door I opened it up with the spare key he gave me. I heard... Noises... Coming from the basement so I followed the -Uh- noises and slowly opened the door... And I walked in on him... doing it with another girl.”
“Holy shit balls!”
“Of course my reaction was me gasping and covering my eyes and he saw me. Caleb quickly put on his pants but I was already walking out of his house. He grabbed my arm and I threw the present at his head... And made him bleed,” I summoned it up. I will not tell her about him following me and bothering me.
“You made him bleed? FUCK YA! Way to Lilia!” screamed Jayne as she did a mini dance and pumped her fist. “He deserves getting hurt!”
I shake my head, “No... No one deserves physical pain.”
Jayne grabs my hand and I look up at her in surprise. Her eyes are angry, “No... No one deserves any kind of pain but you still got emotionally hurt. You know what your problem is... You are to naive.”
I laugh, “But I did push him off my porch and it was freaking hilarious. My mom even approved. He landed on his ass and I swear his head snapped back a little to hard!”
