Chapter Fifteen – Keaton
It’s amazing how grateful we can be for such a small favor.
The forest is damp and quiet. The rain that just fell managed to penetrate my cloths and freeze me. There is no sunlight, no available flashlight, and almost no sun. Walking in the forest is constant suicide. My biceps are cramping from holding Lilia for so long while my legs scream for oxygen from the constant jogging pace I’ve been able to keep up. Time has been slowly creeping up on me making what seems like an hour actually a couple of minutes of constant harsh breathing and tolerable pain. My mind probed the sleeping Lilia’s brain making sure that she didn’t feel pain. I’ve been sucking all of the pain away, the least I can do.
The forest clears up and I’m in a familiar clearing not too far from my house: about five more miles. I walk over to a tree an sit down as gracefully as possible (that doesn’t say much) and I managed to lay down the unconscious Lilia next to me. Her red top is now crumbled up and her jeans are a cold and soggy. I smile as she sifts closer to me. I reach into her back pocket of her jeans and pull out her cell phone. I flip it open (it’s one of the old crappy ones) and dial my father’s cell phone number.
Three rings and a familiar voice picks up, “Hello?”
“Dad?”
“Keaton?”
“Uh… Yaaa…”
“Where have you been!” he bellows out making me cringle slightly. He is not a force you want to go against, “Your mother has been going crazy trying to find you. Your sisters won’t tell me anything because they claim they don’t know even though I know you asked them to keep it a secret or how else would they be so calm in this situation with you gone with no explanation with all of us thinking your dead and-“
“Dad breathe,” I say calmly.
My dad sighs and then clears his throat, “Where are you?”
“Not too far from the house with Lilia,” I mumble. My dad sighs. I told my mother which means; she told my dad but my dad doesn’t care if I choose a human or a nymph unlike my mother. I took a deep breath trying to calculate what to do next, “Dad? I need your help.”
“What? What’s wrong?” my dad immediately asks with concern radiating off of his voice.
“Lilia got kidnapped… And I just saved her… But she’s not doing too well. Do you think you could convince mom to help her?” I ask shakily. If my mother doesn’t help Lilia gets sent to a hospital. Hospitals are not friends of nymph. We are different which make us science experiments for the doctors who are baffled by our recovery time and abilities. Lilia doesn’t know how to will herself to heal faster.
“Keaton… I don’t think your mother is cold hearted enough to let an innocent girl die because she was a victim of a kidnapping,” my dad reassures me. “Out of curiosity… Who kidnapped her?”
“This punk Caleb who thinks he’s the shit. He’s half fairy and has all his facts twisted about us,” I explain.
“Caleb?”
“Ya… So?”
“Keaton… You have to come home right this second. Run if you have to… Leave the girl. I don’t care. Get away from him. Now,” My dad urges me and abruptly hangs up.
