Chapter Seventeen – Lilia
Thunder always follows the lightening...
We arrived at Keaton’s vacation home, which is huge with its own private beach. The house is beautiful and open and it makes me feel free. Nothing is cluttered but it looks lived in with a blanket here and there, a pillow out of place, and a fridge fully stocked. Keaton brought me in because of ankle and sat me down on the couch. His two sisters ran through the house and found their rooms.
“Do you want anything to eat? Drink?” Keaton calls out from the spacious kitchen.
“Keaton? Lilia?” Keaton’s mom calls out.
“In the kitchen… and living room,” Keaton calls back.
His mother walks back in with a serious smile on her face, “I am worried… So I’m going to set down some ground rules.” I nod as I look at her intently. The least I can do is follow her rules since she helped me and helped me get away even if I don’t know the whole story. “Number one: No going into each others bedrooms after ten pm and no closing doors if you are in each others’ bedrooms. Number two: Always have an emergency cell phone on you no matter where you are. Number three: tell my husband or myself if you are going out. Number four: please try to keep the house clean-ish.”
I nod and give her a smile, “Sounds reasonable and easy enough.”
Keaton chuckles, “Thanks mom. Why don’t you just give us the sex talk instead since you have already managed to embarrass me to a point of no return.”
I burst out laughing and his mother chuckled, “Keaton. I will have that talk with you later if you really need it that badly but I think Lilia is smart enough not to try something that stupid.” Keaton’s mom smiles at the both of us and walks out.
I relax back into the sofa as Keaton comes around to the couch. I immediately sit up so he can sit down and let me lean on him. Keaton immediately begins to play with my hair as I turn on the TV and settle down into the comfy and probably super expensive couch. A thought of worry pops into my head, “Does my mom know I’m here?”
Keaton chuckles, “Yes. My mother cleared that all up and your mother seemed happy enough to let you come up for the weekend… But we didn’t mention the broken foot problem.”
I nod, “So she knows what happened with Caleb.”
“Yes. She is actually relieved you’re out of that state for the first time.”
I look around surprised. Holy shit. This is my first time out of the state of Colorado and I didn’t even notice. How stupid am I? I sigh in total relief, “So where are we exactly?”
“Florida.”
“So you are telling me we drove for more than a day without stopping except for gas, food, and the occasional bathroom break but we didn’t stop to look around in any of the states? I am very disappointed in you!” I scorned him.
Keaton chuckles, “Shush… Try to fall asleep. It’s nearly three in the morning and I want to show you around tomorrow.”
I nod, “But don’t forget to explain everything to me tomorrow.”
“My family and I will tomorrow during dinner. Don’t worry. We can’t really put it off anymore so you’ll be in the loop soon enough. I just don’t know if you’ll like being in the loop,” Keaton laughs nervously.
