Chapter Sixteen – Lilia

The darkness may be ever so appealing at times...

“Isooseer,” I heard someone say through the veil of cold, dark water. Unable to open my eyes, to feel anything but pain, and unable to hear anything properly; I float in this dark abyss hoping to find a way out. It’s endless, dark, and harsh. It’s like falling asleep right into a nightmare.

I suddenly feel a swaying motion and the darkness has turned into a dark blue, like the ocean except the fish and the surface. There is nothing around me. The swaying motion increases and becomes violent and then I’m falling. My body mangles around in the darkness and I feel myself reach the bottom of the giant chasm in one flop. Pain swirls around me like smoke does around oxygen. I can’t open my mouth; I am unable to scream for help. The darkness changes again and I’m being thrown around in the dark. My body stretches in uncomfortable ways but its bringing feeling back.

“Weerwo!” something screams through the darkness making my ears ring for a second. My body suddenly falls and spins. Again I am at the bottom of the chasm, gasping for air before another wave of long swaying motions come over me.

Finally everything is still after what seems like hours of swaying, spinning, dropping, and endless jerks. I let the darkness settle around me again. I let the darkness caress me again, letting me fall asleep on it. It’s a bed: feather soft. Right as I settle down there is a huge shake and a couple follow. Why can’t I be left alone to sleep in the darkness that wants to appeal to me?

“Agicowen!” someone screams shaking me fiercely. Oh what now! “Aveer!”

There’s another shake and then silence. The darkness begins to subside as I begin to fall. The darkness and soundlessness fall faster than me making me feel as if I’m being pulled out of the water by my feet. Finally I break through and gasp for air. Every sound is amplified as I tune my ears in for one thing: a gentle, steady heartbeat. Something dependable and reliable. I grasp onto that heartbeat for a couple of minutes as I let myself fall back into my body.

“Lilia?” a raspy voice asks in no more than a whisper but sounds to me like a scream of pain.

In return I slowly open my eyes only to be blinded by strobing lights. I quickly close my eyes and squeeze them shut to push away that blinding light. Something brushes up against my skin and someone hiccups. Again I try to open my eyes: this time the light isn’t too bad. I can make out figures but everything is fuzzy. It looks as if a child no more than three years old tried to play with chalk pastels. No line is super fine and nothing seems to have a definite color.

“Lilia?” says a loud voice making me cringe. I look around trying to pinpoint the source of the loud sound. Finally I give up and look straight ahead.

“Give her some time Keaton,” says a small, soothing voice. Immediately I want to hear more. “She was nearly killed… Let her settle down and get her head wrapped around everything that has just happened.”

Keaton?... Oh Keaton! Immediately I search around for him unable to see clearly and unable to speak. A hand holds onto mine and I immediately know it’s him. Another hand begins to stroke the top of my head; comforting me, “Shhh… Its okay…”
