Day 1: M*A*S*H Compound, 0400 Hours
Dalli had no clue where Jess or the girls were until she stumbled across a camp where she saw a whole bunch of girls, but she didn't see Jess. Dalli decided to check the camp out.
"We need help over here," a nurse with blond hair called over to a doctor with jet black hair.
"What happened?" the doctor asked the nurse.
"Burns," the nurse started, "first degree."
"We better get her into pre-op," the doctor replied.
Dalli thought that she should at least go and see if those were the girls from the orphanage. As she got closer she recognized a few of the girls and the owner of the orphanage.
"Jess, where is she?" Dalli asked Mr. Takihashi.
"She went into pre-op," Mr. Takihashi told Adallia in his Korean accent.
Dalli stumbled through the crowd of nurses and doctors and into the building, consisting of green fabric sides, a tin roof and a wooden skeleton. It was chaos inside as well as out, people running, and laying on litters, everywhere. Most of them were barely conscious, bloody and bandaged or burned and soot-covered. Dalli couldn't find Jess anywhere, but she had to be here.
Jess was in a trance, her body hurt all over but she felt detached from the pain, like it wasn't really her feeling it, it wasn't really her hearing the dim murmur of voices. She closed her eyes as weariness washed over her, and opened them again as she realizing she had been moved.
A nurse whose face was nearly concealed by white hospital attire, though she noticed blond hair peeking out of the surgical cap, was leaning over her, and a mask was placed over her mouth and nose. Jess drifted off, too tired to even think about Dalli.
Dalli, not seeing her cousin that she had practically adopted as a little sister they were so close, decided that Mr. Takihashi must have mistaken Jess for someone else as she shoved her way back through the crowd. Doctors and nurses yelled at her to get out of the way, one of them tried to make her sit down and said something about her head, but Dalli pulled away and made her way outside.
She soon began searching the whole camp, the worry building up tremendously inside her gut, twisting her insides into a knot. She climbed in the back of trucks, peered in windows, and scrutinized the face of everyone going past, but didn't see Jess's blond hair, always in two braids, or her big blue eyes or cherubic face.
Dalli expanded her search to the edges of the camp, up to the helicopter pad and the roads leading into and out of the camp. She was at the edge of the helicopter pad, looking over the camp as all the people disappeared into the buildings and trucks and ambulances and jeeps pulled away.
The noise of a helicopter startled her, she turned around and held a hand up to block the bright early morning sun and took a step back. But since she had been so close to the edge, she stepped on a loose stone and it fell away beneath her. She tumbled down the steep cliff, and pain shot through her as she hit the bottom, stopping abruptly on the sharp rocks. The pain was so great she blacked out.
Dalli was covered in blood and scratches. She hurried down off the rocks after she woke up and the pain subsided and headed back into the camp, not really sure where she was at the moment.
Someone must have noticed her, for he asked her worriedly, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," Dalli started, "I'm looking for a girl with blond braided hair, she came in with the group from the orphanage."
