Day 8: M*A*S*H Compound, Colonel Potter's Office, 1630 Hours
She made the lonely walk across the compound to Colonel Potter's office.
"Wait here," Radar told Jess, and a second later he came back and said, "He's ready to see you now," and offered the girl an encouraging smile.
Jess took a deep breath and let it out, stepping into Colonel Potter's office. She was nervous, not because Colonel Potter wanted to talk to her, but because he wanted to talk to her alone.
"Have a seat, Jess," Colonel Potter told the nervous fourteen-year-old girl.
Jess didn't say anything as she sat down, knowing that this was going to be a very long afternoon and evening without Dalli talking to her.
"I heard that your cousin is no longer talking to you?" Colonel Potter asks, even though he already knew it was true.
"Yeah," Jess replied glumly, catching on that the reason Colonel Potter wanted to talk to her wasn't because she was in trouble, but because he wanted to see was up between her and Dalli.
"I'm sorry. I know how close you two are," Colonel Potter said, and paused a second before continuing. "Besides refusing to talk to you, Dalli won't talk to anyone else either. Not the doctors or the nurses or anyone," Colonel Potter said.
"I'm not surprised. Dalli gets mad at one person and then hates the whole world," Jess said.
"Well I was wondering if you could try talking to her again, because while she was-well, fighting with the other patient, she pulled all the stitches in her arm. Pierce had to stitch her back up, but now we can't monitor her condition because she won't tell us anything," Colonel Potter explained.
Jess turned her gaze to the floor, not sure how to answer. She kind of knew that if Dalli stopped talking to her, it had to mean that she was really mad. Dalli had held a grudge and stopped talking to people before, but she had never refused to talk to her cousin. Jess wasn't sure if she could convince her cousin to start talking to her again, or anyone else.
"I could try," Jess replies to Colonel Potter's request.
