Day 9: M*A*S*H Compound, 0500 Hours

A while later, B.J. pulled the jeep to the side of the road in front of the charred black pile of burned wood and rubble that was all that remained of the orphanage, the only home Jess had ever known. She stared in horror as B.J. and Hawkeye got out and began looking around.

Their combat boots swirled up clouds of gray-white ash that coated everything as they crunched over the remains buried underneath.

"There's footprints here, and someone's already looked through this mess, but it wasn't Dalli. Probably the homeless Korean children," B.J. said, stooping to look at marks left in the disturbed layer of ashes.

"She might have been through here, but I can't tell for sure. Let's keep going," Hawkeye said dejectedly as he stood up from where he had been crouched in the colorless ruins, brushing ash from his hands.
