RECAP: chapter 14

“We leave on Saturday. That is 3 days. Don’t let me down, stay out of trouble, and have some fun.” He smiled softly. “That is all, continue.”

Loud noise broke out. People were so excited, but I wasn’t.

I wasn’t attending.

Chapter 15:

“Lacey?” Charis asked as we walked down the lit corridor to our dorm.

I looked up at him. “Hmm?”

“Something’s up. What’s wrong?”

I sighed. “I want to go to the…w-whatever they’re doing…so I can escape.”

“Oh, you can’t go?”

I shook my head. “I got a detention today from Mr. Smith. So now I can’t go.”

We walked up to our dorm door. He stopped and looked at me. “We’ll find a way.” He said.

Flopping down on my bed in the darkness, I let out a sigh. But before I could do anything else, sleep consumed me.

A warm breeze brushed past my face, dark hair flying back with it. The summers wind was beautiful near the lake. I looked past me to see a castle in the distance and the boy with black hair.

I cocked my head to the side, and then grinned at him. I knew him.

“It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it?” He asked.

I nodded, smiling and turning back to the lake.

On the horizon, the sun was setting and the sky was coloured orange and red hues. I made my fingers into a rectangle and looked through them.

“Did you want to learn how to swim? You’re old enough now.” He said, taking a step forward, eyes lighting in the sun light; a bright orange. His aura was a blue and cream; calm and content.

I looked down at the ground. I was only four; I could wait much longer than that, couldn’t I? I shook my head.

“Not even dip your toes in?” He suggested.

I smiled, nodding and taking his hand and running over to the edge of the lake, sitting on the big, grey rocks. I plopped my feet into the water and let my legs dangle. The edge of my floaty, cream, lace dress dipped into the water, floating as the material was so light.

The boy sighed. “You still won’t speak?”

I looked at the fabric once again. Could I speak? Could I utter a noise, make a sound? Would I, should I? Is it better off this way?

“Come on.” He encouraged. “Easy peas’.”

I opened my mouth, trying to say anything. I tried and tried, no noise escaping my lips.

When I was about to give up, a tiny, scratchy noise came out. My eyes widened and the boy grinned. “Try again.”

I tried once more. Nothing, so I tried again. The same result. “Why won’t this work!?” I hissed, exasperated.

He laughed and patted me on the back. “You did it!” He grinned widely.

I smiled. I wanted to say his name. So I did, but where my mind had said it, his name was carried away with the wind and I slipped into the lake.
