Chapter 22:
Blood sprayed the far wall, as I saw William slash my parents to pieces. He laughed; the sick man laughed and licked the blood off his sword. Sitting silently in the air vent, I watched the man slaughter my parents, and laugh. How could that man laugh? His laugh was sickly and sweet, like sickly sweet honey, dripping off a spoon. But the honey was poisoned by something that oozed something dark, something evil and cruel.
The smell and sight soon became too much and I let out a whimper, my tiny, eleven year old body shook in the small air vent. William turned, looking around. But he didn’t see me looking through the wired air vent. No, I was invisible to the world. No one had noticed me since I was born, I had been an eyesore. They told me that; the people, my parent’s friends. But my parents never said that. They just never had any time; too busy running errands.
Only he had payed attention to me. That one boy, yet I had lost his name; flown away with the wind.
“I can see you, Lacey. There is no point in trying to run. A little girl like you would never be able to get away.” He smirked in the dark room.
I held my breath, and tried to calm myself as his footsteps sounded throughout the room, echoing in my mind. Concentration seemed so far away as I felt his breath on my face. I was sweating like a dog.
Then, finally, a tiny portal of darkness formed behind me. If I fell backwards I would go through it on the air vents ground.
William chuckled and poked the cold sword to my neck. I leant backwards and fell through the portal as I heard him scream, “No!”
But I kept on falling…falling and falling and falling. Then the ground caught up with me as I fell onto the floor, looking up at the boy. I choked on a cry as I curled into a ball and sobbed, tears streaming down my face.
My parents were dead, that’s all I knew for now. My brother was gone, had been for years after they killed him.
“What happened?” He boy tried to uncurl my body. He was fifteen and he was wearing night pants and nothing else. His ebony hair made his face look paler and more worried that it was. “Lacey, what the heck happened?”
But I couldn’t say anything. Nothing came out.
Someone’s hands flew to my temples as another image flew through my mind, and my eyes rolling back in my head once more. Another one, this was at least the tenth, and …
The room was golden again, lit up by candles and music played through the building. People danced and drank, socializing and enjoying the evening. But my eyes were searching for someone. I looked up to the balcony and there he was. His blue eyes made him stand out. He looked about 16 now.
I hadn’t been able to see him for a while, so I wasn’t sure.
He was wearing a suit and leaning on the balcony’s rail, staring over the crowd.
I looked down at the grey, lace dress I was wearing. My black hair fell to my bottom and my blue eyes must have shone as soon as I saw him.
Walking fast up the stairs I made my way to him as gracefully as I could.
Before I made it to him, I blinked, and he was gone; walking down a corridor.
I walked faster, behind him down the corridor now.
