Chapter 8- Safe and Sound

The feeling was intense and there was a soft thud on the cold school floor. It took a few seconds before the rest to realized what happened. And Maria wasn't pleased. Chase had fallen to the ground unconscious, his eyes shut and mouth closed. They all bent down to see if he's okay. But Maria knew who did this and got up and turned suddenly towards the hooded figure who did this, and soon as they were about to leave, Maria shouted  " HEY! HOW DARE!" Then she used her bionic speed to strike the man but he dodged. Maria missed. She fell down hard on the floor. The main man and his followers laughed at her downfall, however Maria got up and tried again but she tumbled once more. " you fool, your no hero. You'll never be a hero" and with this, the leader of the hooded figures was about to aim at Maria when she said " your wrong... Now!" And without a signal moment to think, Adam blasted the man with all the strength that he's got and soon in a quick moments notice, Maria's sight become all black and she was sipping into darkness. 

Mr Davenport got there a bit late and Maria was on the ground with blood coming down her forehead. She also had her eyes closed. His face was in terror, behind him was Douglas and Tasha who squeezed their way pass him. All three of them have been wondering what was taking the guys so long to go home. Once they all entered the main hall way of the school building  a surge of panic enter everyone there, however what made them panic the most was the idea of Chase and Maria being, for they are human after all, they're not invincible. Mr Davenport rushed quickly towards Chase with Tasha right behind him. Douglas went straight for Maria and got to his knees for closer inspection. She had blood coming from her forehead and lips. She had bruises on her exposed arms as her checkered shirt was in torn rips.
" what in the..." Said Douglas and Tasha together. Their face were also in horror.
" what happened?" Asked Donald with worry in his voice.
" and please don't tell you had a dare with each other"
There was an awkward pause and no one said a word for a while. And soon an explanation was said and Donald as Adam to carry Maria and or Douglas to get Chase. They wet home, without another word. They went home straight away with not a spoken word while they enter the cars that drove them all back home. 

When they got home, Adam tended Maria's wound whereas, Mr Davenport and the others all tended their attention towards Chase.
" is he going to be fine?" Asked Bree as she pacing back back and forward across the Lab floor. Tasha had to place her hands on her shoulders to stop Bree from becoming even more dizzy.
" he's going to be fine. Just unconscious that's all. Nothing too serious... It think" said Donald, as Chase laid closed eyed on the metal table. They were all flooded with panic and worry that they didn't realized that  Chase was  waking up, his eyes slowly opened. As he opened them the lights that over hung him shone above him. He got up with pain still hurting him painfully. Once they spotted him, they all leaped for joy and as Chase tried to get back to his feet, he felt a sea surge of numbness and pain over come him and he nearly fell, but if it wasn't for Bree's quick reflexes ( which was very normal to her) she managed to catch him in time. 

" careful, your need to rest. You were knocked out very painfully" Bree said as she made sit back up on the table. The was still adjusting his eyes and he soon nodded with agreement. Donald clapped him on the back and Tasha gave him a tight hug. Meanwhile, back up stairs, Adam was fished patching up Maria and she was able to be free. And so they both went down to the Lab and Maria said 

" thanks, I really appreciate your help. I mean it"  

" thanks"  replied Adam. Once they got to the Lab , everyone was there and when Maria laid her eyes on Chase she had rushed to his side and wrapped her arms around his neck. They kissed and Adam, Bree and Leo turned their heads in disgust. When they broke apart the both smiled and it seemed to bring them such joy that they knew that they were both alright. 

In a few weeks time Maria and Chase were all better and they wee able to make their way to the living space and sat down. They smiled slightly awkwardly at each other. As they sat down, the rest had joined them and asked them many questions which took ages to answer. 

" so, who were those guys?" Asked Leo who sat on his own in the arm chair, drinking hot chocolate. There were at first no answers but then Maria quickly answered 

" Don't worry about that, it was nothing..." 

They all sat quietly in mute silence. Though, it was safe to say that they were all safe and sound, in which everything went back to normal usually. They went back to school and on missions as always without any worries or concerns what so ever. It was better in fact that Maria  and Chase had enough spare time to chat and say things they wanted to say in private. They talked for hours without end, and their privacy was only interrupted when Bree, Adam and Leo entered the empty lunch hall with only them inside it. They all smiled and laughed before they went home to rest, a sudden thought came rushing through Maria's mind. It was as though her moments with her and Chase had disappeared for a while. 

Maria was able to convince the rest of the family that she was fine and that there was nothing wrong with her at all. However, every so often there was something going on with Maria, she keeps forgetting little bits of who Chase was. " hey, what's up?" Asked Chase as he sat next to her in the lunch hall. She didn't look up. She kept her head down and it's only when he nudged her that she stared but didn't say a word to him. He could see that her face was confused and in her eyes he could tell that she didn't know what he was on about. It was as if she was listening to air and nothing else. she continued to stare at him when she shook her head and had finally said 

" Hey... um i'm sorry, but who are you?" 

once she said that, Chase took a double take and then he had not said a word for almost a minute then he took a deep breath and calmly said as he took her hand in his...

" I'm Chase. Remember me?" 

He kissed her on the cheek, and if as though a rush of warmth raced inside Maria. he suddenly closed her eyes and said softly and  almost in a whisper  

" Chase..."
