Click. Tch. I examined the board carefully. Shikamaru and I were playing an intense game of shogi. Things aren't looking too bright for me. I stared at the pieces intently. He's super smart, I expect no less from a Nara.
We were sitting by Naruto's hospital bed, waiting for him to wake up. Gramps let me take a little break for the day to check up on Naruto. When I got here I found Shikamaru palying the game alone. I thought it'd be good to pass the time. But he's kicking my ass. I haven't lost yet, but I'm not doing so good.
I froze when the smell of the sea hit me. At the same time the green sand from the little timer stopped.
"Miyu? What's wrong? What the? The sand stopped. Did they forget to rewind it or something?" Only one person's chakra smells like the sea.
I turned to look at Naruto and he opened his eyes. He glanced our way and a smile formed on my lips. "So. You decided to wake up huh?" Shikamaru asked.
I giggled softly. "Good morning Naruto."
He looked around. "Where am I? What is this?" He asked conufsed. He's been out since summoning the giant toad. "The hospital. They say you've been out cold like this for three days straight." Shikamaru answered.
Naruto seemed confused by this. "Three days?"
Wait for it.
Three
Two
One
"THREE DAYS STRAIGHT?!" He screamed and stood fast on the bed. I swea dropped. Same old same old.
Shikamaru was taken aback by his sudden shouting and movement. "Uh yeah! More or less." He said, still a bit unsure of how to comprehend the situation.
"Shikamaru, Miyu! When does the final competetion begin?!" He asked urgently. "Uh tomorrow." Shikamaru answered.
Naruto flipped and grabbed him by the collar. "WHAT?! ARE YOU CRAZY?! Why the heck didn't you wake me up sooner?!" He shouted as he shook poor Shikamaru.
I then put my brother in a head lock, a calm expression remaining on my face. "Calm down Naruto." I said. I had said it like I told him what the weather is.
"Miyu the competition is tomorrow! Where's pervy sage?! He's supposed to be supervising my training!" I let Naruto continue his little freak out session. In truth I understood why he was so panicked.
I was so suprised when he didn't wake up sooner. I was beginning to get worried. Not because of the possibility he could miss the finals, but because he was unconcious. I don't honestly think I can ever get over the fact that I need Naruto's safety in order to pu myself at ease.
I'm relieved he's panicking. It means he's okay. "Listen Naruto you need to focus. You have one day till the finals. If you spend today panicking then you'll fail. Calm down. Breathe."
I said it in a soothing voice and gradually Naruto started to calm down. When I felt his heartbeat and breathing patterns returned to a normal rate I let him go.
Then a large growl came from his stomach. I sweat dropped. Oh Naruto.
Shikamaru then preseneted the fruit basket he brought over. "I went to all the trouble to getting this stuff for Choji, and then the doctors told me he couldn't have it. Such a drag. But at least we can eat it."
I was actually fairly comfortable around Shikamaru. He was actually really nice to Naruto. I think he can be a good influence on Naruto.
I watched as a small smile played on my lips. The two talked like they were old friends. It was nice to see Naruto interacting wih people like this. He tends to smile more and be happier.
There will cocme a time when Naruto won't need your protection. When he'll finally be with a group of friends and is no longer in the dark. What will you do after that? Will you remain in the dark and continue to wach him from the shadow and be left behind? Or will you walk our own path?
I gripped my shorts tightly. Damn Gramps. We happened to be talking about me and Naruto during training. But he's right. Naruto is getting stronger. He's not alone anymore either. He's actually entering the light and becoming one with the village.
What will happen to me? I'll be left behind.
"Miyu?" I looked up from my thoughts and at a smiling Naruto. "Come on, let's go over to Choji's!" He grinned.
I smiled back. As long as Naruto keeps that smile, then nothing else matters.
As we were walking down the halls I could smell Sakura's chakra a bit away's. Must be visiing Lee again. Suddenly a chill went up my spine as Gaara's chakra's smell invaded my nose. It feels off.
I stopped. "Hey, do you guys mind if we stop by Lee's first?" I asked. Naruto and Shikamaru both turned to me, a bit confused. "Why?" Naruto asked. I bit my lip and closed my eyes, focusing.
"I feel Gaara's chakra. And it's a tad nerve wracking. It feels weird and I'm worried for Lee." Naruto looked confised. "Why? You think he's going to hurt bushy brows? Why?"
I shrugged and stuffed my hands in the pockets of dad's white jacket. "Women's intuition."
Naruto sweat dropped at me but Shikamaru nodded. "Alright, let's check it out." We then changed coarse to Lee's room. Worry was being built up though.
I can smell Gaara's, Lee's, and Sakura's chakra's. And they're all too close for my liking.
I led the group as we walked so I was the first to see what was happening inside the room. I immediately Flash Stepped in front of Lee and grasped Gaara by his shirt collar, letting the tip of my kunai touch his neck.
"Get you and your sand away from Lee." I threatened. Shikamaru and Naruto stood on guard behind Gaara. I stared into his teal colored eyes with my light blue ones.
What's with him?
"What are you doing huh?!" Naruto demanded. I narrowed my eyes on Gaara. "You were going to kill him. I recognise that hand sign. It's for your sand coffin. And your sand reeks of blood. Get away from Lee. You already ruined his chances at following his dream. Get lost!" I barked the last part.
He just continued to stare at me, unphased. As the boys were talking to this psycho, we remained staring at each other. Even as Gaara spoke to them his eyes neevr left mine.
I knew what Shikamaru was trying to do. It was to bluff his way out. Smart, but not with this guy. Gaara's eyes hold nothing but cruelty. He's far more dangerous then I can comprehend. If we were to fight right now . . . I'm not sure how I'd hold up.
Gaara then proceeded to admit that his father implanted the sand spirit, The One Tails Shukaku, inside of him and his upbringing. He truly believes he's a monster. And because he thinks that, he's become one.
But he's not. He's like Naruto. Except he doesn't believe in love, family, or friends. He continued talking about his past as he stared me.
But I saw a spark of something behind his eyes. It was . . . sadness? Or was it betrayel? But I got chills. Because he's like us. Like Naruto. Like me. We're so different but we're so close to being the same.
Naruto took a step back and Shikamaru turned to see what was wrong.
Gaara's sand then exited his gourd and stood by him. I then gripped his throat and lifted him in the air. The sand latched itself onto my wrists and neck instantly.
"Watch it kid. Just like your sand can easily crush my throat, I can too. And I'm not afraid of killing you. I'll do it in a heart beat unless you get lost." I warned.
"MIYU!" Naruto shouted. I ignored him. Gaara was studying me intently. "You touch my brother or either of my friends then I'll kill you right here and now." His eyes then widend and he gripped his head tightly.
He was grunting in pain and his sand quickly returned back into his gourd. Slowly, I set him back down, watching him with confusion.
He then stopped and looked at me with such hatred before walking out. "All the same I will kill you. I'll kill you all." His last words hung in the air.
Bring it kid. The moment you make a move against my brother and friends, it'll be the last move you'll ever make.
