Chapter Thirty-Three

Tessa's POV

Alec and I have been walking for what seems like an age and I'm afraid that he might realize that something is up. Unless he already has.
Stop! Thinking like that won't get you anywhere! I scold myself.

The streets of London are full of people chatting, couples taking a romantic stroll and women shopping. Everything was vibrant with colour. Then you saw me and Alec, who stuck out like a sore thumb, wearing all black. We were already attracting strange looks and we couldn't afford to be spotted by a policeman. It was time to get off the streets.

I lead Alec off the streets and down a secluded alley where I had seen the silhouette of an abandoned building. My heart is beating so loud that I swear he can hear it. What if the building isn't actually abandoned? What if it is a vampire hide out? No, it will be okay. I have to remember that I am now Sebastian Morgenstern, murderer and evil mastermind, not that I'm alive in this time anyway. God, I have to stop procrastinating! I focus my thoughts on the demon possessing Alec. Surely he would know that something was up when I say I have to leave. Demon's are dumb, but cunning, and there was a chance that I might not make it out alive.

Let's just hope that someone comes after me.

Jace's POV

I keep sprinting, passing women chatting and shopping and men who look at me disapprovingly. My sister was hurt because of Alec and Sebastian and they are going to pay.
Just don't do anything that will get yourself killed. The sensible voice in my head says. You still need to save Clary.
Yes, I will save Clary, right after I torture her brother for hurting my sister.

Big Ben chimes in the distance. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Five chimes. It's five o'clock, exactly half an hour from when I started and I wasn't any closer to finding them. By now, Sebastian and Alec could very well be out of London completely.
No, don't lose hope.
Losing hope would be like giving up and Jace Herondale doesn't give up.

This thought just fuels my anger and I sprint faster, trying my best not to knock anyone down. That's when I see it. A flash of white hair hurrying down a darkened alley, a shadow following him. A crowd has formed itself around me, and I push people out of the way, desperate to get out. I can't, the crowd is too thick and it makes me wonder what could be causing this mass of people to suddenly appear.

I gasp, which is not a very manly thing to do, and stare. There, pushing people like I have been doing, is a man. Except this is no ordinary man. He has the strength of ten men and is taller than average height. His brown hair is swept to the side, revealing a metal forehead.

It's an automaton.

Charlotte had been telling us about how there was an evil man called Mortmain who created these automatons that he used to gain access to the Institute. They were created to kill. The way Charlotte told the story made it seem as though the automatons were no more, that Mortmain was killed by the angel Ithuriel. But this automaton was very much real, which worried me.

What if Sebastian was working with Mortmain? Two evil men, both obsessed with obtaining two different girls. Tessa and Clary.

Hey guys,

So I updated! I'm not sure how well written this chapter is and it might get a little bit confusing because I introduced Mortmain and the automatons, which wasn't planned. Hopefully you all enjoyed this chapter and if you have any tips or ideas, make sure to comment them!

P.S. Should I write a Harry Potter fanfiction once I'm finished with this one?
