Chapter Thirty-Six

Henry's POV

Charlotte rushes to where Isabelle is laying and I can sense the concern she has for the girl from a mile away. A pang hits my heart as I watch her caress the girl and murmur soothing words. It's been a while since she has done that to me, and I'm starting to wonder if our marriage is real, or if it's just a fraud, a plan so that Charlotte could run the London Institute like her father. No, that's not true. Charlotte loves me like I love her, I think.
I sigh. She doesn't seem to need my support and attention as much as I need and crave her own. I just wish that we could have a proper lovers moment, like we did when we first married. Even though people take me for a fool, I have feelings and it hurts when people don't give me as much respect as they give others on the same level. But I keep my opinions silent, acting as if they don't hurt me.

"Jem! Go organize the infirmary! Will, help me lift Isabelle." Charlotte orders in complete control.

Together, Will and Charlotte lift Isabelle's body and carry her towards the doors; towards me. As they approach, I step closer, offering to help, but Charlotte waves me off.
"No, Henry, we have got her. Why don't you go down to the kitchen and ask for some tea to be made?" She commands rather than asks.
I sigh. She doesn't really need my help.
"Yes dear." I answer, trying not to seem upset.

Charlotte and Jem leave the library and I'm left contemplating my thoughts. Does Charlotte still love me? Or does she see me as a waste of space, a babbling buffoon, oblivious to everything around him.

Isabelle's POV

I'm vaguely aware of someone carrying me. A few minutes after I ordered Jace to leave, I found myself dizzy from the blood loss and then all I could see was darkness. I feel bad for sending him on that mission because I may have well gotten him killed. Great going Isabelle.
My head is thumping and I can sense that soon I'll black out again. But before I do, I manage to speak.
"Jace, I'm sorry."

Omg, I can't believe how long it has been since I last updated! I'm so sorry, I meant to update a long long time ago, but I didn't and then I was plagued with assessments that I just couldn't find the time! That and I did have writers block which sucked.
