Glimmer

"Come on, Clove, answer the phone." I say quietly to myself with the phone to my ear.

"Hey, this is Clove. Leave a message." Her voicemail says. I groan. That was the sixth time.

Usually, every time I call Clove, she answers the phone. Weather she's doing a project for school, in the middle of a game, or practice, or just hanging out in her room.

Where could she be? I ask myself anxiously.

I sit in my room for a few more minutes, then my phone rings; I answer it without checking the caller. "Hello?" I say quickly.

"Hey, Glim!" Finnick's voice bursts through the phone joyfully.

I sigh -Not Clove- I think, shaking my head. "Hey, Fin." I say as casually as I can get out.

"Whatcha doin'?" He asks sweetly.

Waiting for my best friend to answer her damn phone! I think angrily. "Nothing." I say.

"Cool," I can practically see the smile on his face. "Where's Clove? I've been trying to call her for half an hour."

"To be honest, I really don't know." I sigh.

"I hope she's okay."

"Yeah. Me too." Right then, I hear a knock on my door; I run downstairs and open it, revealing Clove. I envelope her in a hug. "Jesus Christ! You scared me to death, Clove!"

"Hey. Sorry I scared you." She says. "I was over at Cato's house. . . studying." She rolls her eyes. "As if he was going to actually study."

I furrow my eyebrows. "Okay." I say. "Come on in."

"Clove's there?" Finnick says over the phone. "Can I speak to her?"

"Yeah, Fin, here she is." I say and hand Clove the phone; she takes it.

"Hello?" She says.

"Young lady, where have you been?" Finnick says. "Your mother and I have been so worried about you. You had us worried sick." His words make me laugh. "You are grounded."

Clove laughs. "I was with Cato, studying."

"Studying?" Finnick asks. "Since when does he study?"

"He didn't really study," Clove laughs. "He just goofed off and procrastinated." She shrugs her shoulders.

"Oh, well... I'm happy that you're okay." He says. "I got to go. See you tomorrow." Everything goes quiet.

"So..." I say. "Wanna go up to my room and watch scary movies?"

"Sure." She says. I grab her hand and we jog up to my room and put in The Conjuring.

I stand backstage, memorizing the words to the Christmas song I'm preforming tonight.
