Cato

"Where's Clove?" I ask Finnick.

"I don't know." He shrugs. "I haven't seen her."

"Bullshit. I saw her walk out with Katniss and Johanna and I know you saw her too."

"They're leaving. Gale texted a few minutes ago, saying that they're gonna have their own party or something."

"Where's that party?"

"At Gale's." I run out the door, into the parking lot and see Clove racing across the pavement, a truck barreling towards her. "Clove!" I scream as I dash towards her, pushing her out of the way.

"Cato!" She screeches as I feel pain consume my body and black clouds my vision.

I wake up in a hospital room. "What happened?" I ask as I feel someone holding my hand.

"You saved my life," Clove says, sitting in a chair beside my bed. "Why?"

"I love you, Clove. Why wouldn't I save your life?"

She looks at me, confused. "I thought that you—"

"I don't love Glimmer. I love you. Why were you mad at me anyway?" I furrow my eyebrows at her.

"You kissed Glimmer."

"I didn't kiss Glimmer."

"Johanna said—"

"And, you believed her?" I flick my eyebrows up at her.

"You didn't kiss her?"

"No. Why would I kiss another girl when I have the best girl in the world right here." I caress her hand with my thumb, the brace on my wrist preventing me to move it too much.

She smiles. "Why did you embarrass me in front of the whole class?"

"I don't know. I guess I got all wrapped up in the whole tough-guy act. I really didn't know what hell you were talking about. I thought you were talking about when we had that serious fight on that game Street Fighters." I chuckle a little, the brace on my neck causing whimpers to escape my lips.

"Easy," she whispers.

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay. Just, don't let it happen again." She purses her lips. "You let me embarrass myself in front of the entire class, only to keep up your tough-guy image?" She flicks her eyebrows up.

"I'm sorry—"

"How could you?" She starts to cry. "You— you jerk. Why would you do something like that to me?" She growls.

"Clove, I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you—" she snorts, laughing.

"I'm kidding," she laughs at me. "It doesn't feel too good when you feel like a fool, does it?"

"Guess not." I frown.

"Listen to me, I love you, and I'd die if anything actually happened to you. Never do anything like that again?"

"I won't, I promise." I smile at her.
