Chapter Thirty Seven
Their mom came into the dining room and looked at me.
"Hi darling you must be lily. Nice to meet you." She said holding out her hand.
"Hello ma'am nice to meet you too. And yes I'm lily." I say and shake her hand.
Then she looks at Chris and smiles, Chris smiles back.
"Chris I have finished the design want to see?" His mom asked him.
Her voice sounded so warm. He nodded and got up. He said that he will be back in a few minutes and went with his mom. Connor and I sat and ate the delicious pasta while waiting on them.
Chris and his mom came into the dining hall laughing and smiling. My heart ached with jealously, I wasn't jealous of his mom or Chris. But was jealous of the feeling that Chris got from his mom. I wanted my mother too close to me. I wanted my parents to meet Chris, I wanted my parents to see me right now. And most of all I wanted their love.
My heart also filled with guilt as I realized the reason they were dead. I looked down at my plate. The pasta didn't look appetizing anymore. I wanted to go home.
Chris came and sat down beside me. His mother sat opposite me.
"So dear, you like art?" She asked.
"Yes I love art." I said softly.
"Great. So what about your parents? Do they like art?" She asked.
My eyes filled up with tears. No they never liked it. They thought that designing wasn't even a career. They just thought of it as a hobby.
"Uh I...um no that don't. Not very much." I said looking down.
"Its okay dear, I'm pretty sure they will like what you do now." She said.
Yes they would if they would be alive... I thought. Chris held my hand under the table and squeezed it to make me feel better. Maybe I did I don't know.
"Mom, tell her what do you do." Chris said.
"Yes dear, I do interior designing, how'd you like the house's interior?" She asked.
"Its beautiful really." I said looking up at her to see hearth in her eyes.
"Thanks dear" she said and then she looked at the door as the frail woman went and opened it.
I looked at the door too, there was a man standing on the door looking a bit tired. Their father. He came towards the dining and smiled at us.
"This is lily, Chris' girlfriend." His mom said getting up.
He smiled at me, but there was something in his eyes. There was dominance. It was so strong that anybody would kneel down to him to do whatever he says.
"Nice to meet you lily." He said.
"Nice to meet you too sir." I said.
He sat down opposite me. And leaned forward to talk.
"So your parents know about you two?" He asked.
Okay...I kind of expected that but what was I gonna reply? Oh ya they are totally chilling about it in heaven?
I didn't say anything and took a deep breath in.
"They don't?" He persuaded.
"Dad will you stop asking her about her parents?" Chris said suddenly his voice rising.
"Why what's wrong with that? Its a normal question, I just asked if they knew about it?" His dad replied.
Chris got up angrily and pulled me with him outside the house.
He turned to me, but I didn't look him in the eye because my eyes held tears in them.
"I'm sorry lily. My parents don't know."
"Its okay. You should apologize to your father for shouting at him. I understand the need to ask that question." I said.
"Its not okay. For all I know its not okay. You are not okay so stop acting like it." He said angrily.
"I'm totally fine Chris I really am." I lied. "Let's go in."
Before he could answer I went in and sat opposite his parents who still looked a bit confused.
"I'm sorry for that sir. No my parents don't know, they are not here sir." I said.
"Where are they then?" His dad asked.
Chris cursed beside me. I don't know what was making him so angry.
"They have passed away sir." I said trying to control my voice like I usually did into a cold and heartless one.
"I'm sorry dear." His mom said.
"When did they pass away?" His dad asked
More cursing from Chris.
"Sir last year." I said.
"Would you mind telling me how?" His dad asked.
"Yes sir. They died in a car crash at night when my brother was in the house with me." I said.
The nights events running through my head and scarring my heart.
"I'm sorry for your loss." He finally said.
"Its okay sir, I've got used to it. Living without my parents." I said.
"Whom do you live with then?" He asked.
"With my aunt, sir." I say.
"If you ever want to talk you can come to us." Chris' mom said softly.
"Thank you ma'am." I say looking at her. "Can you just excuse me for a minute? Where's the washroom?"
"Straight to the right" Connor said.
I nodded and went towards the bathroom. I entered it and looked at myself into he mirror. I took deep breaths and then rested my forehead on the wall. This always helped me forget the pain and relax, at least a bit if not fully!
Then I walked back to the dining
room and saw Chris' parents talking in whispers but when they saw me come they susshed down.I couldn't eat anymore, not with the guilt running through my blood. Chris hadn't said anything. I guess I should go home, it will be better for me.
"I guess I should be going now." I said getting up.
"At least finish your food." Connor said.
"I'm full really, is it okay if I waste?" I asked.
His mom nodded and then Chris got up and walked me to the door.
"Lily you need to go home and eat okay?" Chris said concern dripping in his voice.
"I will" I said.
"I know you won't." Chris said.
"I'm fine Chris and the pasta was really good. And I did not lie when I said I was full."
"Fine? That's just a word. I know how many repressed feelings are hidden under that one word. I swear to god if you don't eat after getting home I'll force you to eat a whole store tomorrow."
I ignored the first part. "I promise I will eat."
"Okay but keep your promise."
"I will"
He leaned forward and gave a short kiss and then waved bye.
I cycled back home, I knew already I wouldn't eat when I get home.
