a/n: i kow you all expected the previous chapter to be prom but it wasn't but this time it really is prom :) so there are four songs in this chapter and since i can only upload one i just put the titles in and then you can listen to the song for yourself :) i don't know if i have time to update on sunday so that's why i'm updating now since i don't want to let you all wait that long again. xx

Chapter twenty-one.

All the days of studying the stressing the exams everything had passed in a blur. Today was Thursday which means tonight was prom. Lauren and I made all kind of things up in our head about how cool it was going to be. It was dinner time but I wasn’t hungry. We sat at the table in the kitchen and I was just playing with my food instead of eating it. ‘Bo sweetie you need to eat a bit’ my mom said after she looked at me for a while. ‘Not hungry’ my stomach hurt that was probably just because I was nervous but still… everyone finished their food and we cleared the table. ‘Shouldn’t you change?’ my mom suddenly asks. I look down at my jeans and all-stars and realise she is right. ‘Yes…. I’ll go now’ I say and go upstairs. I open the closet and look at the dress which is hanging on a hanger at the door. I change into the dress and take my shoes with me downstairs. I could have put them on and walk down the stairs if I had wanted to cause accidents… I sit on the couch and tie the buckle of my shoes. I look at the small heels and sigh. Just one night. I must admit at first I though about wearing all-stars under my dress but maybe that was a little too much so instead I bought heels. My dad smiles as he walks into the living room. ‘You look very Pretty Bo’ ‘Thanks dad’ he sits down on the couch next to me and turns on the television. ‘So are you ready?’ my mom says as she walks into the living room but stops abruptly as she looks at me. ‘You’re kidding right?’ I give her a confused look. ‘The ponytail Bo’ I say nothing so she does. ‘You are not going to wear a ponytail to your prom are you crazy?’ ‘Yes’ I say smiling ‘I am crazy’ ‘Come with me’ she says as she stands up and pulls me with her.  I let out a frustrated sigh but walk with her anyway. ‘May I?’ she asks as we stand in front of the mirror in the hall. ‘Sure’ I say. She takes out the ponytail so my hair falls loose on my shoulders. ‘That’s much better’ she says as she looks at my long brown hair. ‘You’re not even wearing make-up’ I sigh again ‘I am’ I know she means well but it’s just annoying. ‘Well I don’t see anything’ ‘I’m wearing mascara’ I say as I look at her trough the mirror. ‘Fine then just… never mind’ she says as she walks away. ‘Mom…’ she stops and turns her head to look at me. ‘I’m sorry’ I whisper. ‘it’s okay’ she walks back to me and hugs me. ‘Be careful or you ruin my dress’ I say teasingly. ‘I love you sweetie’ she says and kisses the top of my head. ‘Love you too mom’ we both go back to the living room and we watch some television until we’re interrupted by the bell. ‘I think we all know who that is’ my dad says smiling as I stand up to go open the door but turn around to stick my tongue out at him and he smiles. I open the door and see Darren standing with closed eyes. ‘Why are you closing your eyes?’ I ask. ‘Because I’m not ready to see how pretty you are’ I smile ‘I’m sure you’re ready now’ I say and kiss him softly on the lips. ‘You’re so beautiful’ he says when he barely opened his eyes. ‘You look quite good yourself too’ I say smiling as I let my eyes glide from his head to his feet. Darren is wearing a black suit with a handkerchief that exactly matches the colour of my dress which is Catalina blue. He smiles as he sees me looking at the handkerchief. ‘Lauren helped me pick it’ he says smiling ‘Well she did a good job I suppose’ I say smiling. ‘You look stunning’ he says. ‘Thanks I say blushing. ‘I’ll just go say goodbye are you coming? They probably want to see how handsome you look’ I say smiling and turn around to go back to the living room. ‘Well Darren you look very handsome my mom says smiling. ‘thanks’ he says blushing and I only smile. ‘Can we make a picture of you to’ she says almost begging. ‘Mom…’ ‘ah come on Bo’ ‘Fine’ I sigh. ‘Good I’ll get the camera’ she says excitedly. Darren wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me close. ‘Ready?’ she says. ‘Yes’ we both say and she quickly makes a few photos. ‘That was not one!’ I say. ‘Ah just go now’ she says smiling. ‘Have fun’ both mom and dad say. ‘We will’ I say and wave goodbye. ‘Bye’ Darren says smiling. We walk outside and I see a car. ‘Who is driving?’ ‘Joe’ he says. ‘We’re going to pick up Lauren now’ he says as we both get in the backseat of the car. ‘You look gorgeous Bo’ Joe says. ‘If I’m allowed to say’ he says smiling. ‘Thanks’ I say while smiling at him. ‘okay let’s go then’ he says and starts the engine. I move closer to Darren and lean my head on his shoulder as he strokes my hair. ‘I love you’ he whispers in my ear. ‘I love you too’ I whisper back while smiling. We sit in silence for a few minutes until Joe speaks. ‘I’ll go get Lauren you guys can wait here okay?’ ‘Sure’ I say while nodding and answering for both of us. Joe gets out of the car and goes inside the house in front of us. ‘There’ something I need to tell you’ Darren says after Joe left the car. ‘What is it?’ I say looking confused at him. ‘Well they asked Lauren and Jaime and Joey and me to sing at prom’ I smile ‘That’s great’ ‘But that means I can’t dance with you all the time’ he says looking sad. ‘Wait you can’t dance and sing at the same time’ I say teasingly. ‘Bo I’m serious’ he says. ‘It’s okay Dare I don’t mind’ because this means I have  to dance less which is good since I am not really good at slow dancing. After 10 minutes Joe comes back holding Lauren’s hand as they talk. They both get in the car and we’re greeted by Lauren’s happy voice. ‘Hey you guys’ she says as she turns around in her seat to face us. ‘Hey Lo’ I say smiling. ‘Hey’ Darren says smiling as well. ‘You both look very pretty’ she says as she looks at us. ‘Thanks Lo and you look absolutely stunning’ I say as I look at her. ‘Thank you Bo’ she says and turns back around and looks at the road while we drive. Joe parks the car in front of the school and we all get out. Darren holds out my hand for me to grab and he lifts it to place a soft kiss on it. We walk to the entrance followed by Lauren and Joe. I smile as we get inside the gym at look at the beautiful decorations. In the left corner is a table with drinks and food. And in the front is a tiny stage made out of a few tables which are adorned with a silk cloth which sparkles under the lamps. The ceiling is decorated with shining stars and tiny fluffy clouds. I smile as I see Jaime coming our way followed by Joey. ‘Hey’ she says as she looks at all of us. Her gaze going from Joe to Darren to Lauren to me and then back to Lauren again. ‘You look amazing Lo’ ‘thanks’ Lauren says while smiling but looking at Joe. Jaime smiles as her gaze falls back onto me. ‘You look very pretty Bo’ she says still smiling. ‘Thanks and you really look beautiful Jaime’ I say while looking at her red dress. ‘We need to go soon’ she says looking at Lauren and Darren. And they both sigh softly. ‘We know’ they say and both smile as they realised they said it in unison. Darren smiles sadly as he looks at me. ‘I think we’ll just do two songs and then I’ll be back okay?’ I smile ‘Sure’ I look at Jaime and Joey ‘Have fun’ they both nod. ‘We’ll see you there okay?’ Joey says to Lauren and Darren and they both walk away. Darren leans close to me and whispers in my ear. I feel his warm breath against the shell of my ear and giggle. ‘I’m going to miss you’ I smile ‘I’ll miss you too’ I whisper back before placing a soft kiss on his cheek. He waves one last time as both he and Lauren disappear in the crowd and I’m left alone with Joe. I wonder if I should ask him why he isn’t singing but maybe he wasn’t like chosen or something and that would only be mean to ask so instead I just start talking about the exams and ask how it went. ‘Great’ he says smiling ‘Well at least I guess’ he adds. ‘I’m sure you did well’ I say smiling at him. ‘Do you want me to get us drinks?’ he says while looking at the empty stage. ‘I don’t know how long it’ll take for them to be back. ‘That’d be great thanks’ I say smiling back at him. ‘I’ll be right back’ he says before moving to the left corner stopping every now and then to talk to some people. Joe comes back holding two cups and handing me one of them. ‘thanks’ ‘you’re welcome’ he says. ‘I think they’ll start soon’ he says eyes fixed on the stage when we see a tiny figure appear. Lauren. I smile as I see the happy look on Joe’s face at he waves at her and she waves back. We see Jaime and Joey coming on stage and at last Darren. ‘Hello’ he says into the microphone. The music starts playing and Darren starts to sing. (song) after he sang a few lines everyone started dancing and Joe and I just looked at each other. After a few more lines passed we suddenly didn’t care anymore and just started dancing silly with each other. After the music stopped everyone went silent. ‘Do you guys want more songs?’ he asks. ‘Yes’ everyone yells and he only smiles as the music starts playing again. (I’m not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you) after this song finished too Darren started talking again. ‘And?’ he says smiling. ‘More!!’ everyone yells. He smiles and look at Lauren. (dancing queen) as Lauren starts singing I see Joe smiling again and see her winking at him. This time after the song finishes no one says something. Lauren starts singing at first. (can I have this dance)

While singing this line both Darren and Lauren leave the stage as they walk in our direction while Joe and I share a knowing look.

Darren stands in front of me while Lauren hands him the other microphone and goes hug Joe. He nervously offers his hand.

I grab his hand and he locks his fingers over mine handing me the microphone with his other hand. ‘Oh no’ I say not taking the microphone. He looks at me with pleading eyes and I look around to see everyone staring including Joe and Lauren who gives me a reassuringly smile.

I sigh and finally take the microphone cause a smile playing on Darren’s lips.

We finish the song and Darren smiles at me. ‘Sorry’ I smile ‘Don’t say sorry! You planned this mister’ he laughs ‘Maybe…’ I blush as I realise I was still holding the microphone which means everyone heard that and I groan in embarrassment. He drags me back to the stage and leaves the microphones there smiling at Joey and Jaime to show them it’s their turn now. ‘Don’t you ever dare to do that again’ I say as we walk back to Joe and Lauren. As Joey and Jaime start to sing a slow song Darren moves closer. ‘Can I now get a real dance?’ he asks smiling. ‘I can’t’ ‘Why not?’ ‘I can’t slow dance’ he grins. ‘Don’t laugh at me it’s embarrassing’ ‘I’ll help you it will be okay’ I smile. ‘Okay’ he wraps his arms around my waist and looks at me. I look back into his eyes and lay both of my hands around his neck. ‘Is this okay…’ he smiles ‘don’t ask it’s perfect, you’re perfect’
