Once the bell rings we all get up from the table and head to class, after Dylan and I took our seats in math class I noticed Cole walk in and make a beeline for my desk.

"You're doing the talent show right?"

I looked at him in surprise, "What?"

"I mean, you should do the talent show, you have a beautiful voice. I remember you were pretty particular about who got to hear you sing" I looked away from him, I hate the way he tries to act like we're still best friends by bringing up our past.

"Cole, just leave her alone. She doesn't want to talk to you." Both Cole and I turned to Dylan in surprise, I didn't expect him to stand up for me.

"She told you about our past didn't she?" he laughs to himself, "Of course she did." A moment of awkward silence passes until the teacher walks in, Cole looks at me one more time before heading to his seat. A couple minutes into the lesson I noticed a note fall on my desk, making sure the teacher wasn't looking, I discreetly opened it and read its contents.

How does Cole know that you can sing? Sounds a little creepy.

I looked over at Dylan, he motioned his head at the note. I sighed, wrote a response, and threw the note over to him.

You've forgotten that he was my best friend, I used to sing to him because he liked it. He knows a lot about me Dylan.

Dylan quickly wrote a response and threw it back to me.

So, what? Is he trying to force his way back into your life by acting like the friend you used to have?

I don't know Dylan.

After the last note I started to jot down the notes on the board, and didn't look up from my notebook until the class was over. Once the bell rang I gathered up my stuff and waited for Dylan by the door, he stopped Cole and had started talking to him. Curious about their conversation I watched them; they seemed pretty friendly and soon gave each other a bro hug. I followed Dylan as he walked out.

"What was the about?" I asked.

"Nothing really, don't worry about it." I didn't like the fact that he was keeping something from me, we walked silently to my car. As we drove I could see that Dylan was struggling to say something.

"What is it Dylan?"

"Huh?"

"I can see you fidgeting over there."

He laughed to himself, "I wanted to apologize. I do want to try and get to know Cole, I feel bad for becoming friends with him then suddenly ditching him."

I sighed, "It's fine Dylan, no hard feelings." Our tense atmosphere quickly turned into a comfortable one, reminding me of how close and connected I feel with Dylan. I still don't know how to feel about it. We pulled into Toby's school and watched as Toby said goodbye to his friends and run towards the car.

"Hi Lucy, hi Dyl!" He climbed in the back seat and started chatting away about his day at school and all the friends he made. A couple minutes later we pulled into the driveway, Toby quickly jumped out of the car and ran up to the front door. As I was about to get out Dylan grabbed my hand.
