Chapter 15 – Don’t look
“Don’t look down, don’t look down, just don’t look!” Leon said to himself as he clung onto the rope of bed sheets for dear life. He was really wondering why he had agreed to go first, not that he had had much choice in the matter. Suddenly he heard a small click and a squeak and looked down…which he immediately regretted. He saw the world miles below him and cried out in fear. The ground seemed to be spinning and he was certain he would fall. He gripped the linin so tightly his knuckles turned white. Just at that moment the linin slipped down several inches and Leon screamed. “Percival!” He yelled and there was a small chuckled from above him. “Sorry.” A voice called down and Leon grumbled. He looked at the castle wall next to him and noticed something; when the rope had slipped he had slipped down in front of a now open window. He looked up and saw Gwaine watching him and nodding. Slowly Leon placed a foot on the window ledge, praying he wouldn’t fall back. He slipped his legs inside the window and closed his eyes before letting go, hoping he would fall forwards and not back out of the window. He thudded to the ground and slowly opened his eyes to find himself in a room…a room containing the princess Adeline. Leon thanked god she wasn’t screaming but he could tell she would any second. He quickly pulled himself off the ground and ran to her just as she opened her mouth. Leon clamped a hand over her mouth muffling her cries. She struggled with him and eventually bit his hand causing him to let go and cry out in shock and pain. “Get off me you freak!” She cried backing away as Leon stared at the bit marks in his hand. “Am the freak? Look at my hand!” Leon cried but when he looked up he saw her brandishing the sharp pointed handle of a comb. “What are you doing?” She demanded. “Climbing in the window…what are you doing?” a voice said from the window and they both turned to see Gwaine fall with a thud onto the floor. “I was about to get changed after the coronation before I find lunatics climbing in my window!” She said. “Oh, I see. Well you can just carry on, we don’t mind.” Gwaine said grinning mischievously. Adeline gave him a dangerous glare and pointed the comb in his direction. “Thanks, my hair could do with a brush.” He said pulling it easily from her grasp and sitting down on the side of the dresser and beginning to comb his hair. Adeline stared in bewilderment as Elyan fell in the window. “Hello.” He said lying on the floor and Adeline just collapsed into a chair. “You have got to be kidding me.” She muttered quietly. “Not a word love.” Gwaine said grinning before flicking his newly combed hair. Suddenly Merlin fell in through the window and Gwaine gave him a confused look. He knew Merlin had been helping Percival hold everyone’s weight with magic and now there was nobody to hold his. “Where’s Percival?” Gwaine asked. “He opted to stay behind…one of us had to…he insisted it was him…he practically threw me out of the window.” Merlin said grimly.
“Then we have to get him out.” Gwaine said standing up.
“No!” Adeline said firmly standing up herself. “You are staying right here until you explain to me what is going on!” She said so firmly they felt almost intimidated by her. “Now, talk.” She said and the knights all looked at each other and Gwaine sighed. “Ok then, story time it is.” He said before sitting back down and beginning to tell the tale.Percival gazed out of the window desperately trying to work out what to do. The others would go to Arthur as they should, as he had told Merlin they should. But that left him locked up. “Lonely?” A voice asked from behind him. Percival turned slowly and stared into the cells where he could just make out a figure in the shadows. There was the sound of rattling chains dragging over the stone floor as the figure moved towards the bars and into the light. Percival was rather shocked; in all the hours they had been trapped he hadn’t heard anyone else once. “Who are you?” Percival asked. “I am nobody, not anymore.” The figure replied. Percival could just make out her features and couldn’t help thinking that even with the dirty and filth she looked beautiful. “I am not important and even if I was I would not tell you, I despise you all.” She said and he could tell by the bitterness in her voice she meant it. “You’re beautiful.” Percival said and she raised an eyebrow.
“Flattery will get you nowhere.” She said. “Anyway, I think you should be giving her more attention at the moment.” She said and Percival looked puzzled for a moment before he felt himself lift from the floor and fly across the room, sliding down the wall in a heap. Morgana pulled herself off the floor, brushing the dust off her dress. She turned to the window to see the sun creeping closer to the centre of the sky. Then she turned to leave but stopped on the steps and turned back. “Sophia dear, how would you like to be free?”“Eldred listen, can’t we talk about this?” Arthur said as he followed Eldred along the corridors. “We have already talked and I decided the man will still die.” Eldred said continuing along the corridors with Arthur tagging behind him. “Eldred please, Gwaine is a difficult man to understand sometimes, you can often misunderstand what his intent is. Please, just grant him clemency and I promise he will not bother you again.” Arthur pleaded. Eldred stopped and faced Arthur adjusting the crown on his head before speaking. “Or I could kill him and have for certain he won’t bother me again.” Eldred said and Arthur’s face fell as he realised he couldn’t negotiate with him. “Look, why are we hackling over your knights life went yours is hanging so precariously in the balance?” Eldred said smiling wickedly.
“I don’t understand.” Arthur said before glancing around him to see they had entered the volts beneath the castle. He hadn’t even realised he had been lead to the heart of the volts and now stood in front of two big wooden doors. “Hello dear brother, welcome.” A voice said as Morgana appeared from the shadows. Arthur sighed.
“I should have known.” He said and Morgana smirked. Arthur looked behind him but another girl was making her way towards him from the other direction blocking escape. Eldred smiled and went to stand with Morgana. “Why Morgana? Why do you keep doing this?” He asked and Morgana grinned.
“Oh dear brother haven’t you worked it out yet? I love to watch you dance.”********************************************************************
