Chapter 3- He didn’t save me
“Nice to meet you my lord.” Eirawen said curtsying. Arthur stared in disbelief at the girl he thought long dead. Suddenly what she had said registered and he hurried to reply. “Umm yes, very nice to meet you my lady.” Arthur stuttered. There was silence for a moment before Prince Eldred clapped his hands together making Arthur jump slightly. “Good, I will have someone show you and your men to their rooms and I will meet you at the banquet tonight.” The Prince said slipping his hand into Eirawen’s. Gwaine felt as if someone had just slapped him in the face…and then punched him in the stomach…and then ripped his heart straight from his chest. His head was spinning, he kept telling himself he was dreaming, she couldn’t be real, it was just in his imagination. “Gwaine?” Merlin’s anxious voice whispered in his ear.
“Is she real?” Gwaine stuttered.
“Yeh, she’s real.” Gwaine felt as he would faint, she was real, she was alive; she was real, alive and married. He stared at her and realised just how much he had missed her. He noticed how she was deliberately avoiding looking at him, keeping her emerald green eyes fixed on the prince. Gwaine watched her for as long as he could as he was led from the room but she didn’t look at him once.As soon as Gwaine was left alone in his room he flopped down onto the bed and rubbed his hands over his face and through his hair before grabbing it tightly in his fists. Married, alive but married, it wasn’t possible. Why? It was all Gwaine could think. Just why? He was sure she didn’t love the prince, she couldn’t, none of it made sense. He was determined to find out why; he had to before he went completely insane, but if he was going to do that he had to act normal, well his kind of normal, he had to pretend if he wanted to find out the truth.
Leon stood out in the corridor looking out over the kingdom from the window as Percival approached. “Leon?”
“Yeh?” Leon asked still gazing out of the window.
“How’s Gwaine?” Percival asked and to his surprise saw Leon half smiling.
“You’ve changed your tune.”
“What?” Percival asked confused.
“Well before you were all ‘Gwaine I am going to kill you!’ and now you are asking if he is ok.” Leon said and Percival sighed.
“Yeh well you know Gwaine, he can annoy the hell out of you but he is still a friend and I don’t want him to be hurt.” Percival said. Leon nodded and sighed.
“I don’t know really, he just locked himself away in his room.” Leon explained. “I mean even I was shocked so god knows how he feels, and then to find out she is married...” Leon sighed again.
“Should we go and see if he is ok?” Percival asked.
“Not yet, he will either be really quite and miserable or really angry and anyone within 30 feet is in danger of getting their head bitten off it they so much as move.” Leon said making Percival smile slightly. “So no, just give him a few minutes.”
“Ok.” Percival said turning to look out of the same window Leon still hadn’t moved his gaze from. “Nice view isn’t it.” Percival said gazing at the colourful city surrounded by rolling hills and deep blue rivers with the sun setting on the horizon. Suddenly there was the sound of footsteps along the corridor and Percival turned to look. He saw Gwaine, walking down the corridor grinning with almost a skip in his step. “Gwaine?” Percival asked confused and Leon finally looked up from the window to stare. “Hey, do you know where the kitchen is? I’m starved!” Gwaine said as he walked passed not even waiting for a reply. Percival and Leon watched him go shocked. “I guess you were wrong.” Percival said turning back to Leon.
“It would appear so.” Leon said bewildered. Just then Elyan rounded the corner looking just as confused as they did. “I just saw Gwaine…he’s well, cheery.” Elyan said confused. “We know.” Percival said.
“Something’s up, he is up to something I am sure.” Leon said, “The question is what.”
