Chapter 23 - Isis

Leon paced nervously outside the room trying desperately to block out the sounds coming from it. "God that girl can scream." Gwaine commented, earning him a glare from Leon. "She will be fine." Percival reassured him. Leon suddenly stopped pacing and sat down on the bench between Percival and Gwaine. "Leon stop fidgeting!" Percival said as Leon shuffled around in his seat. "Sorry." Leon muttered before beginning to tap his fingers on his knee. Percival sighed, getting up and going to stand by the door. "Mead?" Gwaine offered Leon the tankard he was drinking. Leon took it and tilted his head back, gulping it down. Gwaine's face fell as Leon handed him back the now empty cup. Gwaine stared at it like a child about to burst into tears. "Mead." He whispered quietly under his breath. Percival grinned.
"I'll buy you some more later." He said and Gwaine's face lightened a little. Suddenly there was a particularly loud shout "LEON!" It screamed and Leon sprung to his feet and ran at the door but Percival stopped him. "Leon, she's ok, just wait." Percival said blocking the door. "No! I need to get to her! She needs me!" Leon cried desperately. "She is in safe hands, you will see her soon." Percival said but another shout drowned him out. Leon darted forward and Gwaine stuck out his foot tripping Leon causing him to go crashing into Percival. "Thanks Gwaine." Percival muttered as he pulled himself up. "You’re welcome." Gwaine said with a grin. Leon was stood with his head to the wall, stroking it as if he could touch her through it. Percival and Gwaine exchanged confused looks. "Leon!" Another quieter cry called.
"Rosa! Rosa I'm here!" Leon called back.
"Leon!" She replied sounding teary.
"It's ok, I'm not going anywhere, I'm right here." Leon called softly, tears in his eyes. "Leon I’m scared." She whimpered.
"It's ok, you’re allowed to be. But just remember I will never let any harm come to you, you are safe I promise. Any minute now you will be a mother, don't be scared, smile. That child will have that smile you know, it will be the most beautiful child and it will be ours, just hold on a little longer." Leon said. For the next 15 minutes Leon didn't move, the screams became louder and higher and Gwaine covered his eyes. "Honestly, all this noise, it's giving me a headache!" He complained.
"Now you know how we feel around you." Percival said with a grin and Gwaine elbowed him which made him smile more. "Not gonna work little man." He muttered. Suddenly Rosa's screams stopped and Leon looked alert and worried. "Finally some peace and quiet!" Gwaine said before a new sound filled the air, a child's cries. "Oh great! Another screaming thing!" Gwaine muttered but Leon wasn't listening, he was staring at the door as if he was trying to see through it. Suddenly the door was opened and Merlin appeared grinning from ear to ear. Everyone stared at him, waiting desperately for news. "It's a girl." He said. "You can come in and meet her." Leon couldn't speak; he slowly walked forwards and into the room where he saw Rosa lying on a bed, a small bundle in her arms. Rosa's face lit up as she saw Leon and she held out a hand to him. He took it without hesitation and sat down next to her. "And this, this is Sir Leon, the best, bravest, kindest man you will meet, and this is your father." Rosa whispered to the bundle before tilting it slightly and Leon saw, peering out at him through the blanket, a tiny face gazing at him. "Hello." Leon stuttered choking on his words. The bundle raised a chubby little hand and waved it in Leon's direction. Leon took it gently and shook it softly. "Nice to meet you." He whispered. "What's your name?" He asked.
"Isis." Rosa said smiling.
"Hello Isis." Leon whispered tears of joy in his eyes as he gazed into his daughters face, and it was true, she really did have her mother’s smile.

Rosa walked out to the edge of the training field, Isis in her arms. "Isis look, it's your daddy. This is what he does all day, run about playing sword fights. I know it sound stupid but it's actually a very respectable job...sort of." Rosa whispered and Isis giggled. "Well if it isn't the little princess herself." A voice that could only belong to Gwaine said. "Princess? Seriously? You have taken to flirting with baby's?" Merlin said coming up behind Gwaine wearing a helmet that was far too big for him and rubbing his arm. "Pretty sure there is a law against that." Percival said grinning.
"She is my princess Gwaine." Leon said coming over to kiss Rosa and Isis on the head in turn. "Come on! I will not let a baby interrupt this training session!" Arthur called and the knights slowly filled back into the centre of the field. "Merlin! We need a target!" Arthur yelled.
"Why is it always me?" Merlin muttered to himself as he trudged back onto the field.

"Ow!" Gwaine whimpered as he attempted to stand after being knocked down by Percival. "Don't be a baby, come on." Percival said holding a hand out to help is friend up. Gwaine took it and let out a sharp cry of pain as he put weight on his ankle. "You ok?" Percival asked as he caught Gwaine's arm to stop him falling again. "Yeh, I think so." Gwaine said smiling but Percival wasn't convinced.
"Merlin!" He called and Merlin came over, a sulky expression on his face.
"What? If you want me to be a human target again then no, I have enough bruises to last a life time." He muttered.
"Gwaine hurt his ankle." Percival said,
"Oh...right." Merlin muttered. "Help him over there so I can take a look." Merlin said pointing over towards Rosa and Isis sitting under a tree.

"Ow, ow, ow!" Gwaine cried as Merlin examined his ankle.
"Oh don't be such a drama queen." Merlin said. "It's just a sprain; you will be fine in a day or two." Merlin said. "But you need to rest it, just stay here."
"It's not exactly like I can go anywhere is it?!" Gwaine mumbled as Merlin went back to join the others. Gwaine sighed as he lay back on the grass and autumn leaves; suddenly he heard a giggle near his face. He shielded his eyes from the sun and looked up to see Isis near him. "Look after her for a minute will you?" Rosa said gazing across the field to where a figure stood waving her over. Gwaine stared at the baby now in his arms with a confused look. "Hey princess...umm, what do you want to talk about?" Gwaine said and Isis stared back at him with huge silver eyes. "Not very chatty are you?" Gwaine commented. Isis suddenly raised a chubby hand and took hold of a chunk of Gwaine's dark long hair. Isis giggled and smiled and Gwaine smiled back. "Yes, that's hair, it's my hair, it's nice isn't it? My hair is good." Gwaine said smiling down into her sweet little face. "You know what else is good? Mead." Gwaine said. "Meads good, meads very good, you should try it some time. One of the most important things to remember in life that, mead is good." Gwaine said and Isis smiled as she began to suck her thumb. "Is that tasty?" Gwaine asked before looking at his own thumb. He looked back at Isis as if confirming with her before putting his thumb in his mouth. "You know what, it's not bad." Gwaine commented and Isis giggled. "Gwaine?! What the hell are you doing?" Leon said as he approached to see Gwaine sucking his thumb. "It was her!" Gwaine protested pointing down accusingly at Isis who had chosen that moment to look even more cute than normal. "Sure it was Gwaine...sure" Leon said taking Isis off Gwaine and cradling her in his arms. "Is the nasty man bullying you?" Leon coded. "This is what we do to bullies Isis." Leon said, putting Isis's hand into a fist. "Like this, then hit on the bridge of the noise like this." Leon said moving her little hand against the bridge of his noise. "Violence is not the answer." Gwaine said seriously. Leon raised his eyebrows. "Says you." He muttered. "Where's Rosa?" Leon asked looking around for his wife. "She went to talk to someone." Gwaine said gesturing vaguely towards the direction Rosa left and Leon nodded, sitting down on the grass next to Gwaine. "So, what’s the news on Eirawen?" Leon asked and Gwaine dropped his gaze.
"Good." He replied, a little too quickly.
“Has she woken up yet?” Leon asked and Gwaine shook his head. Eirawen had remained unconscious ever since they had returned from the isle of the blessed. Gwaine had a hunch as to why though, the child had not yet been taken yet. He kept waiting to hear of a disappearance, part of him longed for it, and part of him dreaded it. “I am sure she will be fine.” Leon said and Gwaine nodded, he knew she would be fine, the question was, would his conscience?
