Chapter 19 – Pheasants.

It was true, Eirawen had completely vanished. Lila said she had been at Eirawen’s bed side when suddenly something had hit her head, knocking her cold. When she woke, Eirawen was gone. Arthur called a meeting, to discuss what had happened and what they would do about it. “If Morgana has taken her then she has probably gone to the isle of the blest.” Merlin said and Arthur agreed.
“We have to help her; I won’t leave her, not again.” Gwaine said from where he sat, still trying to get over everything that was happening. “I know that Gwaine but…” Arthur trailed off, unsure of what to say. “I am going whether you are or not.” Gwaine said. Percival gave Arthur a look that said ‘he can’t go alone.’ And Arthur nodded. “Look, I know Leon wants to get back to Rosa.” Gwaine said and Leon couldn’t help but smile at the mention of her. “And Camelot needs you Arthur, maybe I should go alone.” Gwaine said.
“No, not alone.” Arthur told him.
“I’ll go.” Merlin said and everyone turned to look at him. “Well, I know more about the isle of the blest than you lot don’t I.” Merlin said and Arthur nodded.
“I guess.”
“I will come too if you like.” Percival said but Arthur shook his head.
“No, I need you back at Camelot, I can’t really afford to let Gwaine go, but I seem to have no choice.” Arthur said with a sigh.
“So that’s sorted then,” Gwaine said standing up. “We leave within the hour.”

“Thank you so much for, well, everything.” Arthur said to Adeline just before they left. Adeline smiled. “And thank you for helping reveal my brother and Cally for what they truly are.” Adeline said.
“Yes, what will happen to them?” Arthur asked.
”Tried by our laws and if found guilty, which they almost certainly will be, then the punishment is…the punishment is death.” Adeline said but she sounded almost pained at the thought. Arthur nodded solemnly. “Well, I guess this is goodbye,” Arthur said. “Yes, well you are always welcome here in Nilemah Arthur.” She said and Arthur smiled. “As are you in Camelot my lady.” He said. “Farewell.”
“Farewell Arthur, and good luck.” She said and Arthur nodded before turning away and clambering onto his horse along with the others. They all began to ride out, Leon bring up the rear. Suddenly he heard a voice behind him that made him stop. He turned to see Lila running down the steps holding a small bag. “Leon!” She called.
“What is it?” He asked and she suddenly looked a little sheepish.
“Can I…can I come with you?” She asked. "Because there is nothing here for me and Eirawen is my friend...please." She said and Leon sighed.
"Come on then." He said and a huge smile spread across her face.
"Thank you!" she squealed before taking Leon's hand and pulling herself up onto the horse behind Leon before he rode off after the others.

Cally smiled to herself as the cell door swung silently open, she may not have been very gifted but unlocking things was something she was very good at. "Impressive." Eldred said walking over the bars of his cell. "Well come on then, let me out." He said waiting for her to move. Cally looked at him a moment before smiling. "Why should I?" She asked and Eldred seemed taken aback.
"What do you mean why should you?! Open this door now!" He demanded.
"Give me a reason. Because you see, with you dead and out of the way I will be Morgana's only ally, the one she will share the power with, not you." Cally said smiling. "Cally! Open this door! Now!" Eldred demanded again but a hint of worry had crept into his voice. "Farewell king Eldred, and good riddance!" She said with a wicked smile before turning and walking away, ignoring Eldred’s pleas from behind her.

Leon saw the high walls of Camelot in the distance and suddenly felt confused. He had been dreaming of this every night since they left, he couldn’t wait to get back. But now he was almost there he felt nervous. He didn’t know what he would find when he got back, in all honesty, he was scared. He wished Gwaine was there; for once he wanted to listen to that mindless chatter to distract him from his fears. Percival had been trying to fill in for Gwaine but he just couldn’t keep going like Gwaine could. As they rode through the gates he looked up to the window at the right, where their chambers were, but there was nobody there. He felt his heart drop like a stone and he began to panic though he knew he was being stupid. “Arthur!” Gwen cried as she hurried down the steps to meet her husband. Leon watched them, a hint of jealousy stirring in him as they greeted each other. He didn’t listen as Lila was introduced or as Gwen questioned about their trip. Suddenly however Leon heard a sound that made his heart skip a beat or two. “Leon!” Someone cried. He turned and there she was, at the top of the steps, waving frantically at him, grinning so widely the smile hardly fitted onto her face. It only took Leon a few seconds to run to her arms. His arms wrapped around her, his lips against hers, and suddenly, he wasn’t worried at all, in fact he was happiest he had been in weeks.

Merlin and Gwaine sat quietly around the fire as night set over the woods. They had been in stony silence for almost all the journey after they split off from the others. Merlin knew Gwaine was angry at him, he also knew he had a right to be. He looked over the flickering light of the fire to where Gwaine was sat, gazing into the flames. “Something interesting in there?” Merlin said trying to make conversation. Gwaine merely shrugged, not moving his eyes from the flames. Merlin sighed; he knew he needed to say something. “Gwaine I am so sorry.” He said. “I should have tried to save her, no matter the cost. She was your sister, I know if I had been you I would have wanted someone to.” Merlin said and Gwaine grunted something to himself. “I am truly sorry, I know that can’t bring her back, I know I was an idiot, but I’m sorry.” He said but Gwaine still didn’t move or even seem to register he had spoken. Merlin sighed, getting to his feet and going and lying down on his blanket. He felt like crying, he was sure Gwaine would never forgive him. He lay there, listening to the rustle of the trees, the crackling of the fire. He whispered something and his eyes flashed amber and behind him Gwaine watched as the embers leaped from the fire to twinkle and dance in the air like stars. Gwaine watched them drift up into the night sky and disappear into the shining lights of the sky. He thought of Sophia, of where she might have gone to, what she might be thinking. ‘Run now, but just because I have forgiven, don’t you ever forget.’ Her last words kept running around and around in his mind. He looked over at Merlin, lying with his back to him. He knew Merlin did the right thing to keep his secret hidden, he knew he shouldn’t be angry, he knew he should forgive. “I forgive you Merlin.” He whispered with a small smile. “I’ll keep watch of pheasants, don’t you worry.” He whispered and Merlin smiled.
“I’m not afraid of pheasants.” He muttered before drifting off into sleep.
