Xania Ayden
“Someone is doing an awful job here,” Daemon commented as he came in the kitchen where a few students and I were washing the utensils as our punishment after dinner. It was the last day for me to do that task.
And let me tell you, doing dishes in a boarding school which had a lot of students sucked big time.
“Shut up,” I snapped back at Daemon who was leaning against the sink. “Mind your own business.”
“This is my business. I don’t want to eat in a filthy plate tomorrow,” Daemon spat back but the way his teal gray eyes blazed with fury compelled me to apologize.
“I’m sorry,” I said sincerely. That was a first for me... apologizing to demon Daemon. Geez, I did swallow my pride to do that without thinking...
Daemon’s mood drifted back to his less sulking self once the words left my mouth and he raised his eyebrows. Choosing to ignore his questioning expression I went back on my task of cleaning the dishes.
“Well, I came to tell you that your parents were informed about your misbehavior and they are really pissed off. So to punish you they are taking away your mobile,” he told me.
“But I have my mobile,” I informed him, scrunching my eyebrows in confusion.
“They are deactivating your SIM card, Shorty,” he explained and started to retreat.
Okay. I was not short. Five feet two wasn’t short! But that wasn’t so important at that moment.
“But that’s not fair!” I complained and grabbed Daemon’s hand before he could leave. “Are you serious?”
“Yup. Xav asked me to tell you,” replied demon.
“Why didn’t he tell me himself?”
“Because Samara caught up with him and he found spending time with her to be a better option rather than coming here and wasting his time with you,” Daemon replied with a shrug and smug smile.
Now it was my turn to twist words (since that’s my specialty), “So that means you’d rather spend time with me than with Xavi?”
Daemon glared at me and replied, “That is not what this means. Xavier asked me to inform you so I did.”
“Seems like you volunteered,” I smirked at his discomfort and lack of smart replies.
“I didn’t.”
“Somebody’s got a crush on Shorty,” I teased in a singsong tone.
“Your ego is bigger than this isle,” he scoffed and left before I could comment any further. I smiled to myself while doing the dishes for the rest of the time.
The idiotic punishment chore wore me off so I jumped on my bed and switched off the lights even though Aria hadn’t returned.
About a minute later the room was illuminated by the dressing table’s light. Groaning, I got up and switched off the light. I slumped back on my bed and my head had just hit my pillow when the light turned on again.
“What the hell?”, I cursed and got up to switch off the lights again. I picked up my mobile to check if my SIM had been deactivated. Yup. My parents were fast when it came to punishing me and saving money.
A few minutes later the light switched on again by itself again. Giving up the useless job of turning out the lights again and again, I took out my eye mask to block off the light.
Apparently, the night was not in my favor. First, the vexing punishment. Then the inane confrontation with Daemon. Then the annoying dress table lights which weren’t letting me sleep. And now the knocking sound...
