Xania

“What are the odds that I’m dreaming myself to be in a cartoon land?” I asked myself as I got off the bus with my luggage.

And, seriously, I could have been in Cartoonsville. After all, the private island was called Shipwreck Island. I mean, it was as if I was in a Scooby Doo movie. And the forest was so wild and unkempt that it reminded me of The Flintstones but with a creepy twist.

“Is this a Gothic castle?” the girl next to me murmured. One glance at her made me flinch away. With a skin so pale and dry, and hair so greasy, she could star in the next sequel to The Ring.

Whoever she was, she did have a point. The academy was stretched across a vast terrain and had the expanse of a castle. But the beauty of the palatial building was overshadowed by the gargoyles that gave the place an impression to be designed by The Addam’s Family.

Oh yeah... in all that silly commentary I forgot to mention I wasn’t alone in this punishment. My fraternal twin, Xavier, was also a part of my stinky experience at Alsandroz Academy.

With intense emerald green eyes that twinkled like stars and the same oak brown hair, we did attract attention of the bystanders.

After sneaking in our electronic gadgets, like everyone else, I parted ways with my brother to join the teacher in charge for the girls.

After waiting for half an hour in the line I finally decided to talk to the girl standing in front of me. I tapped on her shoulder which caused her to flip her reddish brown hair aside as she turned to face me. Her eyes were the same color of my hair.

“Yes?” she asked with a baffled expression. “Can I help you?”

“Umm... I’m Xania. I’m new here. What about you?” I asked her.

Ugh... could I be any more lame?

“No. I’m a former student,” she replied with a flattering smile. “I’m Adrianna.”

“Nice to meet you, Adrianna,” I reciprocated her grin and shook her hand.

Adrianna couldn’t tell me much about the nasty boarding school as our number was up next. Our bags were again checked for weapons and drug, as if I’d bring some. Probably to kill the staff.

Then I was escorted to room 118 which was supposed to be shared by me with some Aria, a former student.

The flaxen haired girl who entered the room after me had to be Aria. She had sharp features with attention grabbing grayish yellow eyes. A genuine smile played on her lips as she commented with a sigh, “Thank god you aren’t a Goth.” (No offense intended!)

I let out a small laugh and introduced myself, “Hi, I’m your new roommate. Xania Ayden. If you come across a guy who looks like me that would be because I turn into a guy after sunset.”

It was her turn to laugh. “Brother?”

“Twin,” I elaborated. “Name’s Xavier.”

“The X family?” asked Aria. “But I bet your brother would be cute.”

“Looks can be deceptive,” I told her.

“What is this thing about siblings? They insult each other so much but they are the first ones to defend each other,” Aria pointed out.

“It’s complicated,” I replied. “And something tells me that you haven’t faced this complication.”

“Yeah. No brothers or sisters. I’m the only child. With no regrets. I am kind of glad about it. I love to be pampered,” she confessed.

“But you are in this jail o an academy now,” I reminded her.

“Unfortunate, but it’s alright. This year should be better. Last year I had a damn annoying roommate. Ugh!” Aria shuddered with the memory, making me smile.

An announcement asking all the students to assemble in the assembly hall was made.
