ELENA
I woke up this morning confused. Today was my birthday, but I wasn't excited about it. I was turning nineteen, but I didn't feel any different. I wasn't any different. I have yet to reach that age where you become super hot and rich.
Anyways, I got ready and left for school. Today was just any ordinary day. That was until I got to school.
I showed up to my first period, and Damon was there with a big teddy bear and a box of chocolates.
"Happy birthday Elena," he said smiling.
I kissed him.
"Damon, that's so sweet of you!" I said excitedly.
"Anything for my girlfriend." He pulled me into a deep kiss.
The rest of the day was normal. I went to class and avoided as many people as possible. Now, it was time for sixth period.
I walked into class trying not to make a huge scene. Caroline, of course, had other plans. She came into class with balloons screaming at the top of her lungs.
"Happy birthday Elena!" She yelled grabbing everyone's attention.
I sunk in my seat trying to hide my face.
"You can't hide from me Elena! Come on! Don't be like that!" She whined.
"Thanks Caroline," I said hugging her.
"I can't wait till tonight!" She yelled.
"What's tonight?" I asked confused.
"Your party! Duh!"
"Caroline, what did you do?" I asked angrily.
"Well, your parents are out of town, so I took matters into my own hands," she said smiling.
"What matters did you take?" My face started turning red.
"Just a small get together! Caroline yelled.
"What is small?"
She looked at me nervously.
"Caroline, how many people did you invite?" I asked.
"Relax Elena! I invited like fifty people," she told me.
"Fifty! Caroline I didn't want any!" I yelled.
"Well, can't cancel now! Wear something cute!" She smiled and sat down.
Sam got out of his chair and started his lesson. I awaited for my party.
---------------------
Five hours later, and the party had begun. About fifty people showed up. I looked at Caroline angrily.
"What?" She asked me.
"Really?" I asked her.
"Elena, you know you love it. Now get loose and have fun!" She left to go dance with some of her friends.
I saw how much fun her and Bonnie were having. I smiled to myself barely remembering the last time I had that much fun. Jealousy came over me, and I went to go dance.
The dance floor blew me away. All my troubles and cares in the world just disappeared. For a moment, I had no worries in the world. The music moved me. It spoke to me. It made me feel better than I've ever felt.
For a second, I forgot about my family. I forgot how much stress they put on me. I forgot about school. The amount of stress that goes through me on a daily basis. I forgot about Sam. It felt really good.
Everyone sang happy birthday to me, and I stood there awkwardly, like always. Caroline was sweet for doing this. I appreciate her friendship and loyalty, but she can be a little overbearing.
As soon as everyone left, I went to go get another piece of cake. I went to go take a bite, but then I heard a knock at the door.
I expected it to be one of Jeremy's friends, however, I opened the door and saw Sam standing outside holding a bouquet of flowers.
"Sam? What are you doing here?" I asked.
He handed me the flowers.
"Happy birthday Elena," he said smiling.
"Sam, you didn't have to..." I started.
"Yes I did Elena because I care about you," he said.
"Come inside," I said as I opened the door to let him in.
We walked over to the kitchen. I started to put the flowers in a vase.
"Would you like anything?" I asked him.
"No thank you," he was polite.
"Thank you Sam. These are beautiful," I said as I smelled the roses.
He sat in a chair as I was putting my flowers in a vase.
"Don't take this the wrong way Sam, but why are you here?" I asked.
"No came here to drop this off," he said handing me a beautifully wrapped box.
I gasped at the sight of such a beautiful box.
"Sam, you didn't have to get me anything. Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything from anyone," I told him still in shock.
"Elena, I consider us friends. Don't you? We have too much of a past to be considered student and teacher, so I've settled with friends. And friends buy each other things on their birthdays. " Sam's smile never left his face.
"Can I open it?" I said smiling.
He nodded. I carefully tore the beautiful wrapping paper to reveal a black box. I opened the box and saw the most beautiful quartz necklace.
"Oh my... Sam! What the hell?" I asked him angrily.
"Not the reaction I was hoping for," he said laughing.
"This had to have been expensive! I can't accept this!" I said to him.
He laughed. He was so cute when he laughed.
"Relax Elena, it's not as much as you think. Besides, girls like these right?" He asked me.
"Yes... Yes... It's beautiful." I sighed as I stared at the necklace.
Sam got up out of his chair and walked over to me. He took the necklace from the box and reached over to put it around my neck.
"There... So beautiful," he sighed.
"Thank you Sam. It's gorgeous," I smiled.
"I wasn't talking about the necklace." He brushed part of my hair out of my face and stared into my eyes.
I could smell his man scent and cologne mix. If heaven had a scent... This would be it.
I could feel him drawing near. He became extremely close to my face. I wanted this, but I just couldn't.
"Thanks Sam," I said causing him to back away.
"No problem," he smiled softly.
"So, I'll see you Monday?" He asked me.
"Yeah, you will," I smiled as he walked out the door.
Oh boy. What now?
