ELENA
Today was a big day for me. It wasn't because of graduation but because this is the day Sam and I can finally be open with our relationship. He can finally take me on a date outside of his dorm. Although I love being in his dorm, one can only handle so much take out before it starts becoming gross.
I woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing. Usually I would turn it off and fall back asleep, but I saw the goofy picture Sam put as my contact for him.
"Good morning," I said smiling to myself through the phone.
"Good morning beautiful," he said. "Are you excited?"
"For what?" I teased.
"Graduation," he laughed. I loved the way he laughed. There was something very comforting about it. It made me feel warm inside.
"Oh that... I guess I'm excited."
"You don't sound like it."
"Well, that's not what I'm excited for," I teased again.
"Oh yeah? What is it then?" I could hear him teasing back.
"Well, I'm looking forward to seeing my boyfriend in public," I said to him.
"Well, I'm looking forward to seeing my girlfriend in public." Hearing him say the word "girlfriend" gave me chills.
"So are you coming to the graduation?" I asked him.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world," he said. "Although I only want to see one person walk across that stage." I laughed at how cute he was being.
"I love you," I told him.
"I love you," he said. "I'll be seeing you walk across that stage soon."
"Yes, you will."
"Goodbye Elena," he said.
"Bye Sam."
"I love you," he said.
"I love you too," I told him again. We hung up the phone, and I got up to take a shower. There were a lot of things on my mind. First, Sam and I were going to make our relationship public, or at least I was hoping we were. Second, I had to make a speech in front of the entire student body and all their closest friends and family. Third, Sam and I were going to make our relationship public.... Oh wait, I'd already said that.
"Sam and I were making our relationship public." I kept repeating that in my mind. I'm not sure why I was so scared. Maybe it was because I was scared of what people would think of me now. Although I never really cared what people thought, I just didn't want people to think that I didn't work hard for my grades.
I finished getting ready for graduation. It was now time to leave, and I was more than ready. I walked downstairs to my parents with smiles on their faces.
"Hey guys," I said.
"Hey Elena," my father said. "You look beautiful."
"Thanks dad. You look handsome," I replied. They kept their smiles on their faces.
"Why are you smiling?" I asked laughing nervously. It was starting to become weird.
"No reason sweetie," my mom replied. They seriously kept smiling.
"Stop, you're freaking me out."
"We're just excited. It's a big day!" My mom said.
"I guess it is," I said under my breath.
We got to the auditorium where the graduation was being held. All day I felt like this was a dream. Now I see that this is all real. This is actually happening. I looked around hoping to find Sam somewhere, but he was nowhere to be found. My heart dropped a little. This would be happening soon, and I don't know if I could handle it without him.
