ELENA

Damon and I have been dating for a month now. He's the sweetest man in the world. He treats my like every girl wants to be treated.

I've been doing great in school except the fact that I was still failing history. This last month has been worse than anything. Every time I get my essays back, it always says things like "Did you even read the chapter?" Or "Maybe you should look at your notes." My worksheets say things like "Did you even try on this?" Or "Maybe you should spend more time on your homework." I'm furious because I spend hours a night working on his assignments. I've tried talking to my counselor to switch out, but all the classes are full. At this point, I just decided to give up.

I wrote my essay in about twenty minutes knowing that I'd fail it anyways. I threw my books down on the floor and went to bed. I'm so done with this year. I'm so done with Sam.

SAM

I'm an awful person.

I kept tossing and turning in my bed trying to get some shut eye, but Elena kept appearing into my mind.

I want to hate her. I really do, but I can't. I have no reason to hate her. She's only looking out for me, but I can't seem to forgive her. I know she hasn't done anything wrong, but I want to be with her so badly. I've never wanted to be with someone like I want to be with her.

I hate myself for being so cold to her. It drives me insane to know I'm hurting her. I don't know why I can't get over her. When I see her, my heart dances. I can't help but smile when she laughs. I love her laugh. When she smiles, it brightens the whole room. As much as I try to forget about her, sixth period comes around, and there she is.

And Damon... He's a good man. I know that he is a good man, but I hate him. He's done nothing but good things to Elena. He treats her like the princess she is, but that should be me.

I know I've been unreasonable and rude. I need to fix my wrongs.

But first I need to sleep.

ELENA

I spent the day dreading history class. At this point, I don't know why I even show up.

I walked into my class and sat down at my seat. Caroline and Bonnie sat next to me talking about some television show they were watching. I ignored their conversation. That was when I heard something I never thought I'd hear.

"Good afternoon Elena," Sam said smiling.

I looked at him and turned away confused.

"What's with the cold shoulder?" Caroline asked me.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Elena, did you not see how cold you were to Mr. Winchester?" Caroline looked at me waiting for an answer.

"I just don't like him," I said.

She gave me a confused look.

"He's a bit of a hypocrite," I said loud enough for him to hear.

She ignored me and looked at Bonnie.

The class started. Sam got up and started talking to the class about something I wasn't paying attention to. I sat in my desk and started drawing some random drawing. That was until I was called on.

"Elena?" Sam asked hopeful.

I was confused by this action. For the past month I've been ignored. I looked up with a confused look on my face.

"What?" I asked.

"Do you know the answer?" He asked with a still hopeful look on his face.

"No," I said.

"Why don't you give it a try?" He asked.

"I'm alright. I'll probably get it wrong anyways," I sighed and continued drawing.

The rest of class went by pretty fast. I drew some flower out of boredom. The bell rang, and I got up to leave. That was when a voice called me.

"Elena? May I speak to you?" Sam asked.

I gave him the look I'd been giving him all day... Confused.

"Uhmm alright?" I said walking to his desk.

The room cleared, and it was just us two.

"Yes Mr. Winchester?" I asked as he looked at me with a sad look.

He handed me a piece of paper with the title "Extra Credit" at the top.

"Elena..." He started.

"What is this?" I asked angrily.

"You're failing Elena," he said.

"You don't say!" I yelled.

"Just do this assignment. It's a ten paged essay on any historical topic you want to talk about. If you do that, it will override all of your failing grades." Sam looked at me with the look of a lost puppy.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked.

"Because I care about you Elena, and I don't want to see you fail," he said to me.

"Ten pages?" I asked.

He smiled and nodded his head.

"Okay, I will have it to you by the end of the week!" I smiled. "Thank you Mr. Winchester."

"No problem Elena," he kept his grin on his face.

"Mr. Winchester? I'm sorry if I've been rude lately," I looked at him with a sincere look.

"You're not the one who should be apologizing Elena. I've been a jerk for no reason. You're a bright student. I believe in you," he said.

"You do?" I asked.

"I do," he smiled.

"Thanks again Mr. Winchester. I won't let you down," I said as I grabbed my backpack and left with the biggest grin on my face.

I went home and started my essay.
