ELENA

I opened my eyes a little to see flashing lights. There were people surrounding me. They were all around me. I could see a man standing above me as he started touching my stomach. This man seriously needed to learn about boundaries. They were all shouting. I looked around trying to figure out what was going on. Everyone looked worried. They all had concerned looks on their faces.

I continued scanning the audience with my eyes which were extremely weak. For some reason, I couldn't move my body. Behind the man touching my stomach was someone who looked extremely familiar. He had a sad expression, and I could see tears streaming  down his face. Sam, why are you crying? I started to become aware of what people were saying.

"We need to get her to a hospital right now!" One man yelled. They moved me to a stretcher for some odd reason. They started to put me in an ambulance. I saw Sam get in and sit right by my head.

"Elena, stay with us" he cried. Sam, you know I hate it when you cry.

"Sir, I need you to back away a little," the man said to Sam. Sam moved over to get out of their way. I tried to get a good look at what was going on. This was starting to become frustrating. I heard the man behind me on the phone or something.

"We've got a stab wound coming in. I need an OR open when we get there!" Stab wound? I looked over to the people continuing to touch my body. It was then that I saw my reflection in the window. There was a large gash, or at least I think there was. There was a lot of blood everywhere. I could feel my heart start to hurt and my eyes grow weaker and weaker. I could hear beeping.

"We're losing her!" They yelled.

"Elena!" Sam yelled. It's okay Sam. I'll be fine.

"Give me the paddles!"

I felt a shock in my body before I fell back into a deep sleep.

SAM

I waited in the hospital room for what felt like years even though it was only the next morning. They had the television in the waiting room on. It was on the news. I saw a familiar face pop up on the screen. I grabbed the remote and turned it up a little bit. The title read "Girl Stabbed in Mugging: Criminal Caught."

"A girl was on her way home when she was confronted by Rick Stevens, a fugitive who's been on the run for two years now. He escaped from a prison in New Mexico before moving to New York. Just last night the man stabbed Elena Gilbert. Sources are still unaware of the reason, but all we know so far is that Rick Stevens has been caught, and he is now awaiting his trial. Another source says that a man saved Ms. Gilbert from Mr. Stevens after he attacked her. We don't have a name yet, but we will get back to you with more information." I stared at the picture of Elena on the screen. She had a smile on her face, and she the sun was shining on her. I always loved that photo.

"You know, it's not healthy for you to watch this much tv," I heard an easily recognizable voice say. I turned around and saw Dean standing right behind me. "How you doing Sammy?"

I got up and pulled him into a hug. There was something about Dean that comforted me. I could feel the tears starting to come up. I pulled away and looked at Dean. I could see the bruise on his cheek that I gave him.

"How is she?" Dean asked me.

"She's still in surgery," I said.

"Still? It's been like eight hours."

"She's not doing well Dean." I sat down placing my head in my hands. The tears started to fall down my face.

"Hey!" He slapped me. "Stop it. She's going to make it through this. If she could handle the whole student teacher relationship, then she can handle a little stab wound."
